Starter Mounting issues
« on: November 14, 2017, 12:08:22 PM »
I hava the original engine a 305 SBC rebuilt with new pistons, crank, cam, lifters, push rods, valves, rockers, oil pump. I even bought a extra dizzy in case I decide to remove the CCC from the engine, I have a rebuilt olds 307 Qjet rebuilt by Cliff R.
The engine was frozen when I got her from sitting too many years. Now I need to get her started and went to AZ and got a 3689S starter to get it up and running, the engine came with a high torque starter and long bolts to bolt it up. the new starter has shorter bolts and the older bolts do not go through it, the problem is the bolt holes do not match up? they are a little off and AZ, Advance or NAPA all say this is the correct starter for a 81 TA with a 305 SBC with a Manual Trans.
Has anyone had this issue and is it the correct starter?

I don't see the 3689S listed as a compatible starter for an '81 T/A w/5.0 on the Auto Zone site.

It is actually the  AC Delco 336-1870,  I took mine into Advance compared it to the one they had, the  Car Quest 3689S and compared it to the NAPA starter  RAY 2464794 and the starter is a match.
I had the numbers written down, confused them, my goof up.

I tried to load some pics of the bolts and starter, but I am getting an error.
