Hittin' the ground runnin' on this deal.  Agreed to $900, found a set of tires/wheels to throw on it, going to get it rollin' tomorrow.  He's even delivering it to my shop for me...

Now to figure out where I'm gonna store the damn thing...

Congrats, that's a pretty sweet deal! I'm just really curious what the underside looks like after sitting on the ground for so long

You and me both...

I haven't relegated it to "parts" status yet, but getting it out of the dirt and into the shop may reveal things that will make my decision for me...

Well, the wheels and tires I bought from a buddy didn't fit...  I should have known, they were off a '95 Camaro -- offset/backspace are WAY wrong for a 2nd-gen car.  Luckily, the car's behind a mechanic's shop, so space-saver spares, S10 wheels, and junk tires are abundant...

It wasn't easy, it wasn't fun, and she ain't no beauty queen, but she's up on all fours:

Set up to arrive at my shop sometime Friday.  Then we'll really figure out the fate of this car...

EDIT:  Check out my "Junk T/A Rescue Vehicle" in the second pic... :D  Rolled in like gangbusters -- wheels, tires, lug nuts, breaker bar with extensions, 4-way, 4 different jacks (OEM GM from my car, bottle jack, floor jack, and always-useful Hi-Lift), and got after it.  I actually looked like I knew what I was doing out there...

Alright, I ran down to the shop tonight and got the VIN and cowl tag info off the car.

According the cowl tag, this car left the factory in Dorado Gold Metallic (54) with Med. Sandstone Deluxe Interior (63B).  I bet this was a beautiful car when it was new.

Something curious, though...  The upper right-hand corner of the cowl tag (Fisher Body Unit number) doesn't match the last 6 digits of the VIN.  In fact, the digits begin with a "0" rather than a "1" so I know that couldn't be a VIN -- they started with 100001.  However, the Body Unit number on my orange car matches the last 6 digits of the VIN exactly.  Strange...  And they left the same plant 3 months apart (orange car was 4th week of May, this one 1st week of February).  What gives?

Yes sir.  All 6 digits of the Fisher Body Unit number match all 6 digits of the sequential production number in the VIN.  I'll try to get a decent pic next time I'm out at the shop.

Maybe just a coincidence on the matching # because the body tag does not contain any information that ties it to the VIN.  That's why you always run PHS docs on the VIN because someone could scalp a body tag and sell you something it wasn't born with.

It is a rare occurrence that the two numbers match, but it is normal.

It would be nice to see the PHS document to this car, from what you mentioned it sounds like it was a beautiful color combination.
