Windshield washer bottle question
« on: February 08, 2007, 08:16:51 PM »
I know that there are more than one type of washer jug that has the washer pump mounted to the jug itself....I am trying to put all original parts on the car if any are non-original...How do you know which type of washer jug came with your Trans Am?  Is there a list of part numbers that came with that particular car?  Thanks    Wheels

and an easy way to tell which you  had.... look at your wiper motor if it has a pump affixed to it then you need the one without the pump attached to the washer resivoir....otherwise you need the opposite one

There are at least 2 types of jugs that came with the pump mounted to the jug...My 78 with the 403 olds auto has the pump mounted at the lower corner of the jug...and my 78 Y88 has the jug with the pump mounted on the bottom and in the center.  I've read where the type mounted in the bottom-centered were for pre 78 and I was wanting to make sure which one the Y88 actually came with..Thanks for all your help.   Wheels

My 78 was built in Dec. 77 and it came with the one mounted in the jug and centered.
I have since converted it to the new jug with the pump in wiper motor.

Hey Eagle 1,
I thought all pulse wipers had the pump included with the wiper motor assembly.  Your car came with pulse, didn't it?  My car with non pulse, has the pump on the jug.

Sorry I havent got back with you on this.
I really dont know.  The orginal water jug on my car had the washer pump in it, and you have my original wiper motor. :?
I asked the second owner of the car, who had owned it since 79, and he said he never replaced either.

Here are the pictures before I started restoring the car.  In the top photo, you can see the wiper motor I sent you, and the bottom photo you can see the original jug with the hose hooked to the cap, but it did have a washer pump in the bottom of it that wasnt hooked up.

Eagle1, the wiper motor you sent me has the pump on it.  That's why the pump on your washer bottle wasn't connected...I guess.  I haven't seen a pulse wiper motor without the pump.  I guess I'll have to check the body manual to see if a pulse wiper without the pump was available.  Did the pump on your bottle have wires connected to it?  If not, you probably have a replacement bottle.  If so, that's a stumper!

Rick, you've got the same bottle that I have.  My car is without a pulse wiper system.  I plan to convert to pulse so I picked up a bottle without the pump in it.  I may end up using the original bottle though, cause I don't know what I will do with the wires that go to the pump on the bottle.  I certainly wouldn't cut them off.

There were 2 types of washer bottles w/pump available in 1978...I have both sytyles....I'm going through the Y88 to check for original equipment.  Is there a parts list or other part identification source to tell you what your car had when it came from the factory?
