 :o I guess someone jumped on the BIN price; it just listed last night.
It wasn't me...I plan to send cores off for resto at some point. NOS is nice but I look at it as it's still 30 years old vinyl....I'd rather have a fresh new dash.

Who are you planning to use? I've had mine boxed up for months but cannot decide who to use? Has anyone ever had their console done too? I wonder if they would look original too?

I'm planning on using Dashboard Restorations in Washington state. (Hitman says they do good work)
They are cheaper than Just Dashes though their prices have risen also....they quoted me $650. for the dash and $250. for the console.

Are there other companies that anyone is aware of?

Yeah, Brett gave me the plug for them too. They have gone up. I got a quote of 550 + 200 (dash & Console) about two months ago. I guess I'll go ahead and do it before the quote expires.???

They told me they wanted all the dash panels also so they could check fitment and they would also dye those panels to match the dash for the same price.
Geez, I hate inflation ::)

Actually I would hold off on the center console.  The consoles come out looking just like the dashes.  Which is not a correct look to them.  I saw a camel tan console in the original GM box sell for about $300 on Ebay.  So, I would wait and keep searching for that original console to purchase instead of spending $200 - $250 on the console restoration.  The dashes are great, but the center consoles..... not so much.

Brett, is the difference in the texture? Have you ever bought one of the OER repop's? How well do they compare to the original consoles? Thanks

The texture is the big difference.  When Dashboard Restorations does the console, they do it just like the dash.  As you know, the console are smooth and not grainy like the dash.  So, that is where the difference is.  The repro consoles for $250 are the same way and worse.  They have that same stupid grain pattern to them PLUS they are all plastic and don't even bolt up the same way as the originals.  Again, they want about $249 for the repro's.  So, if I had a choice between repro or refinished, I would take refinished.  If I had a choice between repro and NOS, I would take NOS.

That's pretty much the same way I feel on any part.
I will go NOS over any repro part.
I will pay more, but I know it is correct.

That is true George, but my point was that some repro parts are bad, but some actually are good.  For example, the center console..... Bad.  But if you look at the reproduction red arrowhead nose emblem........ Good.  In fact, the only way that I can tell the difference in the nose emblem is that the repro does not have a GM part number on the back of it.  Other than that, they are pretty much exact in every way.  So, some parts are good in the repro market....... granted, not alot of them, but there are some.  In Fact, I could probably run down the entire list of every part on the car and tell you how it compares to the original.

I smell a business opportunity, Brett!  Make up the list and charge a small service fee for it.  Offer it like you do your CDROMs -- once you make it, it probably wouldn't take that much effort to keep it current. ;)
