Classic Car Insurance....Any Suggestions for good Companies??
« on: December 26, 2016, 03:55:57 PM »
Hello All,

Did a search on Classic Car Insurance & all the links are rather old.

Does anyone have good, bad, or great recommendations for a Classic Car Insurance company?
Who to stay away from & who is good?

Please lemme know!

Thanks.

I have mine through Grundy. Reasonable cost, and agreed value. Unlimited miles. I'm hoping to never use them of course...

Most will stipulate that you don't drive it to work, to pick up the kids, or the like. It is only to be used for "pleasure".

Good luck!

Great! Thanks.

I wont be driving it much (just to shows & such) BUT I didnt want to be limited by a mileage cap 'just in case'.

I am a bit confused by the 'agreed value' I have seen around.

If I say its worth $40k, do I pay the premium for that amount?
OR, if I say $40k & they say $25K, what happens then?

I know that they dont want to insure a car for a massive amount more than what they feel its worth (because there would be an incentive for someone to drive the car off a cliff to collect the insurance) BUT I would like it insured for its replacement cost & not a blue-book cost.

I just gave them the value, and they were OK with it. never came up again. The premiums are very inexpensive for most collector cars, I think mainly because they are driven so little and looked after more carefully than a normal car.

We have the TA insured with Hagerty. I sent photos + description and they didn't blink at an agreed value of what we paid for it. On the other hand I tried to insure our '92 Ferrari Mondial t for $40K and they wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Basically said our daily drivers were to crappy and the computer figured we would drive the Ferrari every chance we got.

I've used Grundy for years.  I've had one claim and it was settled within 10days.  I just added my 79 TA, six weeks ago.  I have an agreed value of $25k, the annual premium with zero deductions is $220.  I had to send them a photo, (I sent 4) and hand an answer while I was on the phone.   I also priced out Haggerty's and the premium was about double the price.

What I like about Grundy is they do not have limitations on milage.  The do require another car be used as your daily driver and the car must be garaged.

Grundy has won out every time I've shopped them.

Hi Guys,

Well so far Grundy seems to be the most recommended.
I filled out their online forms & lets see what happens!

Thanks again

Since USAA doesn't offer classic car insurance, they referred me to American Collectors Insurance, last Sept..  As others have done, I sent them photos of the T/A and the agreed-upon price I wanted.  There were no problems and the insurance cost was very reasonable (roughly $280 per year), with a $0 deductible.  Since I've had a lot of work done to it, I just called them a couple of weeks ago and upped my agreed-upon price by $10K.  They only asked for a current picture and the price only went up $80 for a year.  I do have a 2500 mile limit per year though.  That's not a problem for me, since I have two other vehicles, one being the Viper, which gets driven less than that too.

I went with Geico.

I had to send them photos of each side of the car.

I have an agreed upon value of $50,000 and it is insured for $50,000.  Unlimited miles, stored in a brick building.

I do believe they require you to have another car as your daily.  I have both my home and two other cars with them and live in what was the safest town in America (at least it was in 2011).

I pay $33.00 a month.
