~~Gear Set~~~

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy gear sets for my car?

Does Brett/Hitman sell them?

Jegs, Summit Racing, etc.

8.5", 10 bolt rear. Same as a chevy camaro of same year.

What are your goals? Sometimes a set of gears is required to keep the engine in its power band.

Personally, I'm running a set of 3.42:1 gears as I do plan on putting in a built 200R4 when I finally get some funds to get the tranny built to survive behind a 469. As it is now though, I'm paying for it in lack of gas mileage :( But it'll move off the line like there's no tomorrow! ;D

I would go with a 3.73:1 personally, it will give you a good launch off the line, and decent on the hwy.  JMO

With a TH350? She'll be burning through gas like there's no tomorrow. Sure it'll be great off the line but the upper end will really suffer. And highway mileage - simply forget about it.

Depending on the cam and other components I'd say either 3.08:1 or 3.23:1 at most.

**This is going off Heidi's statement that she wants to go on the Bandit run where you'll need decent mpg's to keep up with the rest of the pack.

Whatever you decide Heidi, you'll need to change the speedo gears inside the tranny to compensate for the new rear end ratio otherwise your speedometer will be off - could be by a considerable amount depending on the change made.

Not really sure.  I will have to ask Frank on that one.  I know that when traveling about 65mph, the rpm's are high.  That's all I can tell you at the moment.

And yes, we are trying to get it back to stock as much as possible.

With 3.42:1 gears I'm turning about 2800rpm at 60 IF I recall correctly. That's with a stock tire - 225/70R15.

If that helps any in determining your rear end ratio.

Never mind -- I just saw your other thread.  It'd be interesting to know what they really are not, though.

LOL Rick, yeah, I am getting notorious for posting information on one post and the asking somewhere else.
I confuse myself here at times! lol

I had a 3.73  in my 77 Z28 and it was hard on gas . Was reving around 3000 rpm at higway speeds, yikes!
I think a 3.08 is about what you would want if you have to drive on the freeway . If you never  leave the city a 3.73 is great for performance.
I forgot your gears were that low Brian ,and I can see why you want a 4 speed overdrive ,that would be awesome . I couldn't imagine a torque monster 455 like yours on the highway with those gears

I have the 2.56 Posi gear behind my car.  Talk about a highway gear.  Would the 3.08 make a huge difference?
