77 door handle tape

question for the pro's should my y82 have had black door tape on the handles? when i got it the handles had the trans am sticker on them and they were broken. just wondering if they were all chrome or if they had the door tape or if that was an option and since i do not have a build sheet, im not going to be able to determine wtf it should be if it is an option but the car was fully loaded otherwise so i would have to guess yes?

i want to say the door tape was part of a deluxe package, if you dont already know the trans am tape is aftermarket... but if your car was fully loaded id say most likely factory had them on there...but its such a small detail in my opinion id say do what you like....

right i personally like the color keyed tape. but if my car was not supposed to have it, then i'll leave it alone.

i do know about the trans am tape being aftermarket i remember when they used to be at even our local grocery store for like $4 a pair

Yeah, door handle tape was an option.  "yes, I would like door handle tape on my new trans am.....could you also color code the seat belts?"  Oh yeah, I went through all this in November 1977.  Pulse wipers?  That sounds cool...I'll take one of those too!

so what your telling me is without that dammmmmmm build sheet, i'll never really know the answer.

ok i'll go this way. was it popular for the 77 s.e.'s to have colored door tape?

I just want my car car to look as correct as i can possibly get it. the big problem is i myself was not the original owner of it nor was i even thought of back in 77 so as you know by they time i remember these cars they were already  being butcherd and beat up a bit

All three of mine had black door handle tape. The one I have now said 4 wheel disc in small white letters over the tape.

my 79 said that as well. both my y88's had door tape so im guessing that its pretty common i suppose this is one of them small dumb details that nobody thinks about that much?

Speaking of door guards.....I bet I got the only car that delivered with a door guard on one door and nothing on the other.  GM quality at work....someone must have been on break!

The door handle tape is RPO code D92...part of the deluxe interior package.

well theres a deluxe interior and exterior option.....deluxe exterior had the chrome strip on the top of the door....standard had  a chrome bead on the windowfelts.... correct me if im wrong, but thats what ive always known

You're correct.  The interior and exterior deluxe packages could be ordered separately.  You could get the door handle tape without the deluxe exterior package.
