79SE--
I'll add to the "low resolution" set...
Here's the very first photograph I took of my '79 Tenth Anniversary four speed just after I purchased it in August 1998. A friend and I were using his front yard as a staging area, doing a tune-up, replacing the belts and hoses, and putting on new tires just prior to me driving it from Rochester, NY to Dallas, TX:
Although a moderately low mileage car (roughly 45K at the time this was taken), if you look closely it's missing some stripes on the flares and on both the front and rear spoiler (which had recently been repainted). All missing stripes have since been added.

Here's a picture I took at the 2007 Virginia fall classic.....beautiful car (I kept coming back to it over and over again).
The owner of this particular Trans Am is an older gentleman who lives in Newport News, Virginia, and has several second generation Trans Ams including a gorgeous orange (durango bronze??) 1976 Formula. I will attempt to get pictures of some of his cars this summer, although he doesn't frequent any of the local car cruises and rarely seems to come to shows. I tried to talk him into getting involved in the local Tidewater Trans Am Club, but he didn't seem very interested (bummer).

I am sorry... Was I hogging this thread?
Sorry that I beat Maryland Bandit to posting photos of his own cars.
I have more photos of 79's that I could take this thread all the way to 79 cars, but I figured I would let someone else post some now.
(And yes, none of the photos above are duplicates of any car)

Nice job Brett...only 21 left to go, this should be a piece of cake!

Sorry Maryland, your car photo only counts as one car (from my understanding of this post). So we should still be on #63 which would be the next car. Is that right 79SE?

Hey, you snooze, you lose -- he waited a really LONG time to get his own pic up! :D ;)

Hey Jeff, You know I can go in and modify posts and take your car out and replace it with mine.... so make sure you share the car when you get it.
-
Don't you guys just do anything for "the fun of it"?? :) ;) If I gave up my car there wouldn't be any reason to come here anymore :'( :'( :'(

Oh come on...you own practically 79 '79's anyway ;)...cool thread, thanks.

Just owning one is enough of a prze for me!
-
Thanks all for playing. I was hoping that with 1979 being the biggest production year that we could pull this off with some teamwork. Nice job to all and thanks for sharing some awesome photos. :)
-
Maybe you should have asked for 1,979 photos instead of just 79 of them.

Here is a picture of my 1979 before I got the 8 inch rims on the car. My 78 was kept for good weather, and I drove this everywhere for about 5 years before purchasing a 1984, which was sold for a house. Wish I still had this, but love my 1978.

I figured since the car is always under construction, why not haul it on a constuction trailer and a dump truck!

-
Franko,
Are you sure that's a '79?
The gas door between the taillights, is off a '81.
Just wondering,
George 8)
-
Yes George, it is a 79, but with many different years represented also.
-
Yah, George, its a '79, congrats on your eagle eyes. your the first to point that out, I was just waiting for someone to mention that.
the '81 lights are the only good set I could find at the time, so, yah their wrong. ;D
Go easy Russ, besides the tail lights and the '75 shaker, its all '79
-
I have a spare '79-'80 smoked taillight door.
How good is the one you got?
Maybe a straight trade?
That is, if you want to?
Just wondering,
George 8)
-
you mean the 81 door I have, or the original 79? because its long gone
-
Ok, sorry Frank. I should have said many different car represented.
-
Now your on the right track Russ ;D
-
I was wondering if your '81 gas door was in good shape, and if you wanted to trade for my '79-'80 gas door I have spare.
George 8)
-
Goerge, I like the '81 better. I know its not right, but I'm gonna hold on to this one. If i change my mind I'll contact you.
Thanks, Frank
-
No problem. ;D
George 8)
-
You just got to love all those 2nd gen TAs.

Nocturne blue. Looks good -- 400 // 4 speed, looks like a light blue interior. Nice ride.
-
Nocturne blue. Looks good -- 400 // 4 speed, looks like a light blue interior. Nice ride.
indeed, im debating which shade of blue i wanna paint my car; the atlantis blue is a more silverish shade of blue right? which one looks better midnight blue or that nocturne color? i was thinking to go with atlantis because this picture looks real clean but it looks like those pics i posted earlier which is nocturne blue looks like this one, but on the description they say it is atlantis blue.
is this nocturne blue?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6f9bUhdgwY
-
The cowl tag should have a 24 for the color code if it's Atlantis, a 19 if it's Nocturne. It looks brighter in this shot, hence Atlantis. The paint looks good - does it need paint elsewhere? It's your car, but it's more valuable with the original color.
The cowl probably has a 24N for the vinyl blue interior.
The youtube video looked Nocturne blue but the sun was bright - it looked a little brighter than others I've seen.
-
Nice T/A. The color of your T/A is Nocturne blue.
Below is what Atlantis blue looks like.
-
I stand corrected. If yours is Nocturne, per the cowl tag info given, I thought the Nocturne blue was considerably darker than the blue you've posted. There's probably a bunch more images posted prior to your post that must have been Nocturne - only available in `79. Good luck.
-
admiralty blue possibly?
-
IIRC, Nocturne Blue is color code 29. GM used a lot of color code 29s over the years -- Admiralty Blue was one and Stellar Blue was another. I'm not sure how the paint formulations differed. All of those are a dark blue mettalic. Lucerne Blue is a different color altogether.
-
No admiralty blue ... only two blues available in `79. Yes, rick is right on Nocturne - it's 29, not 19 which is black - typo, oops.
