WTB Project 1979-81 T/A w/ T-Tops - Texas or Surrounding
« on: July 30, 2013, 05:44:30 PM »
My first car was a project 80 T/A with t-tops.  My parents sold it, and bought me a Corvette.  I have wanted to replace it for awhile.  I need a 79-81 Trans Am with t-tops and preferably a non-turbo car.  The car must be solid with no major rust or damage.  I would like for it to be as complete as possible, but will entertain all cars that meet this description.  I am in Fort Worth, TX but would be willing to travel up to five or six hours for the right car at the right price.  I have $1,000 cash in hand.  I have seen them on Craigslist at this price, but none close enough for me to get.  Thanks in advance.  Zak.

**I also have a WWII 1943 Remington 1903A3 30-06 rifle in unissued condition I am trying to sell or could add to the $1,000 for a solid car."  If I can sell the rifle, I will be in the $1,500 range for a project.**

Go look up Texas Trans Ams in Kennedale, TX just a little south of you, he's always
got a few for sale.

I just checked them out and all he has is one without t-tops.  I emailed him just in case.  Do you know what his projects usually sell for?  I really prefer the shaker hood over the turbo hood.  How mad would the T/A gods be with me if I were to get a turbo car and swap it to a 400 with the shaker hood?  It seems like turbos are all I can find.

He has a web site with project cars listed.

There are also a number on Craigslist in DFW at any given
time.

Yeah, I've been on Craigslist alot lately.  It seems like they are either completely destroyed, or they don't have t-tops.  I found one in Austin, but the guy won't respond to me, so I'm guessing he sold it.  It was a 79 t-top turbo with clean title for $1,000.  I am trying to sell one of my other rifles so I have a little extra money to spend on one right now.  Maybe in the $1,500 range for a solid project?

Prices for cars or project cars are all over the spectrum, most people think
the name Trans Am boosts their parts car value to a premium.

The best you can do is to shop, shop shop and save while doing it, the right
deal will eventually come into view.

I have a guy offering me an 81 T/A with t-tops with clear title for $700, but the lower rear quarters are rusted out and it's missing the seats and console from the interior.  The rest of the body looks pretty good.  He has an extra hood, fenders, and bumper he said he will throw in for an extra $300.  What do you think?  My uncle used to rebuild Chevelles, and said he could help me do the patches.  Is this a deal I should jump on?

This weekend I purchased a 1980 Trans Am with t-tops for $1,300.  It needs to be completely redone, and pretty sure there is a decent amount of rust/damage that has been repaired that I didn't see until I was home with it...  Oh well, I will take my time and tackle one thing at a time until it's like new again.
