Title: A 73 455 super duty
Post by: 76_TA_455 on November 02, 2006, 07:58:32 PM
I am going to look at a so called supper duty engine.  It just got out of the shop and was bored and the works.  Ladies husband left her and she wants it out of her garage.  I know what to look for and how to tell a true SD from a HO but the problem is I have never seen one for sale and don't know the values.  Like a running one or a dismantled one or a brokedown one.  I know they are alot any condition.  So if anyone could give me some advise on values that would help me out.  Oh by the way I am going Sat. and no I won't give anyone directions. IT'S MINE (if true SD)

OK drove 120 miles to view this "SD".  I got there and it was easy to see it was not a SD.  The engine was all apart so I had great access. The owner was telling me that I was mistaking and this is a true SD and showed me an inscribed SD scratched into the block with what I would of figured was a nail.  I thaked her for for her time and as I was getting in my car to leave she asked if I wanted to see where the GM master engine builder signed the engine back in 1973.  Pretty seeing how I saw the block number to be a 1977 455 HO.  Wow wonder how many people are out there like this.

What a bummer especially since she was trying to pass it off as an SD. People like that really piss me off.

I hate those idiots like that also, it's so annoying. Just goes to show that knowledge is a great tool. A while back on ebay there was a guy trying to say his red 77 TA was a rare red SE and it had the engine upgraded to a chevy 400......He was pelted with questions that he could not answer. He wound up not liking me to well.....

:D  Its always good to hear someone not getting fooled into not buying the real deal! Its a shame soo many people out there try to B/S all the time.
