Title: My disease is spreading! Muah ha ha ha ha!
Post by: ZachAttack77TA on April 11, 2010, 11:25:10 PM
Seems my Firebird disease is spreading. This '80 Formula started showing up to school lately. Talked with the owner, it's got a 389 Tri-Power from a '65 GTO in it (nice step-up from the 301) and yes, that's a GTO hood tach.

Thanks, guys. As of now, I got my friend Brandon hooked too and he just grabbed a rust-free 1979 Esprit to restore. We're building a SBC 350 (shhh!) and working out the interior (and some interesting wiring). I don't have any pics of it yet, but I'm trying to get him to join the site. I told him it was an invalueable resource. Seriously, you guys rock. :)

So now my influence has spread even more...

One day, Second-gen Firebirds will rise from the ashes and take over the world! :)

Or maybe repel the healthcare bill....

That happened to me up at college. For a while everyday I came out there was a fellow 79 parked next to mine. This went on for about a month until we finally ran into each other. I always enjoy meeting a fellow 2nd gen owner. There aren't many around here so i get kind of excited when I see another one cruisin around.

Oh and pssst..... Your license plate is crooked ;)

That is really neat to see other people getting into these cars. I like the engine choice!

That is awesome! I wish there were more 2nd gens from my towns. But then again its nice to be the only one sometimes. Makes ya stand out a little bit.
In Bonney Lake/Sumner area I have the only 2nd gen that I know of and in Moses Lake where Im at school, there is one 77 or 78 brown formula or base Firebird. Havent really been able to take a close look at it yet.

Its always great to see another 2nd Gen around. The only two in our school parking lot is my Formula and a red 4th Gen T/A, so at least mine isn't completely on its own haha

I had the same thing happen last summer at work.  I never got to meet the owner though, I guess he worked in a different building.

Note: I'm the Third Gen. I'm not lucky enough to have a Bandit.

Thanks guys.  I love having my Third Gen too. I wouldn't trade her for anything. I'm lucky enough that my Dad owns a 76 Formula, so I still get to play with Second Gens.

Those third gens are fun! This one is my dads. He really likes it, but he needs to sell it so he can work on his 1980 T/A. Here is what it looks like.

Man, that is fresh. If I had the money, I would definitely be coming by with cash! :)

I know he would love to sell it to you. You would appreciate it. We have had some people come and look at it, but no one wants to pay what it is worth. They were all looking for buy-here-pay-here and/or they were expecting a brand new car for $3500. I mean come on, we put a rebuilt 300 horse police interceptor 350 in it and we figured out what to use to keep the functional hood on it!

Yeah, no one respects quality hot-rodding anymore. It's all just "I want this bolt-on 'cause it was on this guy's car in this one magazine". Please. Know what you're looking at when you buy it. If someone's put some real effort into doing it right, it's probably worth every penny.

And though I hate to admit (but it's true) Second and Third-gens didn't come with the highest-quality fit and finish from the factory, so some "stock" cars aren't perfect even if they've sat in a sealed garage their entire life.

Always have loved the second-gens because (in my opnion) they were the last of the "image" muscle cars. Loud paint and graphics, fender flares, turn-downs, maybe period-correct mag wheels, etc. A little cult statis doesn't hurt it's rep either. Still my favorite year for the Firebird. But Third-gens have that clean, simple "more bad a** than the same-year Corvette" look to them, even if they were down in the power department. Can't argue with the style either: it's eighties, but not outdated.

The third gens are nice in many aspects, but the Camaro's of the same years really overshadow them in most people's minds. I don't even like the 80's Corvettes. Some of the third gen. T/A's made the Corvettes look sick.
