What seals these?
« on: October 24, 2011, 09:25:23 PM »
How do you seal the wiring that goes through the trunk to the outside for the brake lights? Its got the little rubber grommet like things but they don't really want to stay in? Whats the right way to seal these?

They should twist and lock into place. there should also be a rubber-like seal where the twist into the tailight housing.

With the taillights installed I can push them in and out? Do I need to take out the taillights to install them right?

Oh no not on the end with the bulbs. Where the wires go through the body of the car. To seal water from entering the trunk not the taillight.

It looks like a thick rubber block with wires going through it.

You can see the holes left and right in this pic of a '79-'81  tail panel.
Yes, there are just rubber grommets that the wiring runs through. If they are loose (they should be notched originally to hold them in), you can use some strip caulk or weatherstripping adhesive to lock/seal them in place

Aren't there supposed to be plastic or hard rubber blocks that slide over those grommets to hold them in place...  I can get a pic of one in the morning, kinda hard to see out there right now ;)

Yes, a black plastic square slides in place over the grommet

this was the only one I could find... They are listed on ebay from the same people but more expensive.

Yeti might have some of those too... He's got all kinds of good stuff :)
