My Trans Ams, Past & Present
« on: July 08, 2007, 09:32:23 AM »
My 76 T/A, sold it after I found my 77.....was severely modified from its original 455/4 speed Starlight Black factory form...as you can see.....was a 350 Chevy/TH350 auto while I had it.

My current car....1977 Trans Am 400 auto. Converted to right hand drive.

Great pics LeighP.  :)

I wonder how your '77 would look if the Snowflakes were painted blue to match the stripe??  ;)

Thanks for the comments guys.....snowflakes are currently off the car. I picked up a set of TATA 8" Turbo rims cheap and had them restored...wit ha little twist...instead of bare metal I had them 2 packed in a high metallic silver...new centre caps etc...I think they look good. I'm still debating how I'll refinish the snowflakes and I have a set of the original Rally II rims I'd like to restore as well. Lol, I've also got a set of Honeycombs under the workbench....I'd love to restore them too.

Leigh -- BTW -- I keep meaning to ask...down there, are the drive-thru lanes around buildings all clockwise traffic patterns as viewed from above?  I'm guessing they are because of the preponderance of RHD cars... :-\ :-\ :-\

Looks great Leigh!
Have you ever thought of having a Trans Am dash bezel done up to match that wrong ( ;D) side fit? ::) ;D
If you get bored, you can always get another set of Turbo wheels in white, just like the pace cars.
I bet the rubber guys love you. ;)

So did you convert the car to right hand drive or did GM?  I'd like to see shots of the engine and stuff to see some of the differences.

In the UK they are great fun reversing through them, toll boths are even better.

Lovely car, isn't it a legal requirement down under for cars to be RHD

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. To answer a couple of questions, yes...drive throughs are usually clockwise. Until a few years ago, cars had to be converted to RHD for unlimited registration....but now the car can stay LHD if 30 years old or older. GM did not build or modify for RHD...this was done by private contractors....some better than others...lol.  ::)
George....I have a section of nicely done engine turned alluminium ready to make a new dash facia out of....I'm looking at doing a custom dash using aftermarket guages....I like some of the Autometer ones, but theres also some nice Classic Instrument guages out there that would suit a musclecar...and theres some new Stewart Warner vintage "green-line" guages being reissued now that look pretty good.....have to research the quality of new SW guages (the original ones were the best you could get in the 60's).

PS....HughJass.....have to sell the convertible, worse luck. Paying out my ex-wifes share of my house doubled my mortgage......which basically sucked up the extra $ I was planning to sink into the convertible restoration.......at least I've still got my T/A, which is my favourite anyway. :)

Sorry to hear about that!
Will you still be planning on another visit in a year or so?
