Ok, guys, you wanted updates, well, here is a small update, but things will be coming fast and furious over the next few weeks. But at least right now, you guys can start making your plans because we have the date set for the event. The dates will be the weekend of May 18th, 19th, and 20th 2007 in Atlanta Georgia. There might be a group that will start earlier than that to start the Run from Texas to Georgia, but that information will be coming soon.
By next Wednesday, we will have the website up and running and in full swing with all of the information, dates, times, etc and also the area to register for the event. I will post the website address once the site is live.
But for right now, mark your calanders for those dates in May and be ready for a HUGE event. I can't name names as of yet, but you will be greatly surprised at what is going on at that event.
Trust me..... you WILL NOT want to miss this. Keep an eye on this post for the link to the website when it becomes live.
-
This is only for the black Bandit cars right ? :(
-
No. I believe it was for ANY Trans Am. Take lots of pictures whoever goes. I can't with school not out for the summer :( No way I'm leaving a 14 year old home alone for 5 days.
-
Point of order, Brett -- when you were discussing this over on TAC, there was a poster who wanted to know if it was limited to TAs or if you'd entertain allowing Formulas to participate also. I don't think he got an answer before TAC crashed.
-
I will look forward to updates. I am about 2 hours south of Atlanta. I know I can't participate in a drive all the way to Texas, but I would love to attend the Georgia Portions of it.
I know where a few spots of the film were made, and someone has a list of places around the Clayton, County area where probably 80% was filmed.
-
Yes, this is open to all Firebirds, Esprits, Formulas, or Trans Ams of any shape, color, option, year, driver, or otherwise.
And Tom.... you have planty of time to plan and make it.....if not, I will come there and drag you down myself.
-
I dunno, Brett -- can YOU remember when you were 14? By the time I was that age I had already made a flamethrower and nearly burned down the garage, driven the family car around the neighborhood, and built a catapult that threw cans filled with mud over 100 feet -- and all that crap was done just in the couple of hours after school. What could I have done given a whole week?  :?
-
Believe me, its not that I don't want to go. I have full custody of my 14 year old son. Mommy has a boyfriend now and can't be bothered. My son goes to high school in my neighborhood. Before high school, he lived with her 50% of the time. Since he wanted to go to a better school where I live, I agreed to full custody and the sacrifices that come with it. The Bandit Run may be one of those. I HATE cutting any kind of deal with the ex-wife. She would have to come get him every night I was gone after work, and take him to the bus stop for 3 mornings. MAJOR WAHHH factor here. Have to get up early, then drive to her work, all that crap.Specially since I would be out, and I'm quoting here: 'playing' with the 'stupid' car over a 'stupid movie'.
But, I'm going to try.....
Oh, and Rick, at 13, I made my own shoulder launched LAW rocket with M-80 warhead. ask me about that one in Dayton.
-
I don't understand this:
"Mommy has a boyfriend now. He goes to high school in my neighborhood. "
The new boyfriend is still in high school?
-
Sounds like fun :D
-
Ok, since Mommy has a boyfriend now, My son is now "in the way". He moved in full time with me to attend school in my neighborhood rather then in hers. It means I have to give up or cut out some things, I will. My son comes first, always will. Cars are a hobby, raising a kid is a full time job.If I can swing the opening festivites in Atlanta, thats a possibility. Most, if not all that movie was shot in Georgia anyway. Maryland to Ga. is 11 hours one way. Thats realistic. Texarkana to Md is 19 hours one way. Thats not. If I can roll down there Thursday and be there before the caravan heads West, I'll try. If you could post up the days and where /whats going on, that would help a LOT of people plan right now. If its still top secret, we will have to wait and see.
-
Hats off to you Tom for taking on a hard job. Too many parents today are willing to ditch the kid(s) at the drop of a hat. We're not called the "me generation" for nothing, I guess.
I hope you get a good Father's Day present, 'cause you've EARNED it.
-
Thanks Rick, that means more then you know!

If I was 14 years old, I would definatley want to go to Georgia in the Bandit car, take the homework with me  . My inner child keeps talking, lol.
-
I'm going to try.....
-
Good man Tom!
I am sure there are many kids that wish their father took the same approach as you are!!
I wish I was going to have my car back.. but not likely.. so I might fly down to Hotlanta just to check it out... :x
-
I'm hoping that they spend Friday and Saturday around Atlanta hitting most of the filmed sites. From Atlanta to Texarkana real time is 6 hours each way. If I can get off Thursday, I'll head down. I can write him a note for school if I have to 8) and bring him to see the fun. We can head home Sunday morning. Its a 12 hour drive back home. Have to wait for more info to be availible to make concrete plans.
-
I can make it to Texarkana. Any plans there? Should I bring my thong?
-
This should be an awesome event! I don't know yet if I can make it but I'm sure gonna try. I won't have the '77 SE yet but I can bring the red car... it'll be fun either way. We owe a lot to that movie.
-
so it starts in atlanta and ends in texarkana ? or is it to and back like the movie ? also brett are you driving all the way down in your car ? i think im gonna go for it....so gimme some info please
-
Hey Tom, you are not alone. Trust me, and I mean that !!!!!
I thought I was the only one.
-
I am planning on going. And there is no way my daughter will let me go without her. Looks like i need to be sure the car is ready for the heat. Maybe i should change rear end gears before this trip. Anybody got a spare set of 3.08's?
-
What are you running now?
-
3.73's......about 3400 rpm at 70 mph.
without cruise it's a long ride.
-
I can make it to Texarkana. Any plans there? Should I bring my thong?
Now I am definitely NOT going!!!!!!!

Mark how did you get that pic! My wife told me she would never show them to anyone!
-
Ta2dbandit -- yeah, 3.73:1s can get kind of "droney" on the road for a long time -- great on the strip and local streets, not so great for a long road trip. :? 8)
-
Hope you guys have a great time....sounds like a top trip.
Tom, whats a day or two of school in the long run, share the memories with your son on the trip...have a good time together and I'm sure he'll remember that a lot more fondly than a school class.....lol. Good on ya for putting him first in your life.
Don't know whats going on with his mother....my girlfriend has two boys and they are the number 1 thing in her life...ahead of me, totally understandable and I love and respect her for that.....I don't think I'd want to be with someone who'd so lightly "ditch" their child.
-
Yea Leigh, if I gotta yank him for two days what the heck. :D I'm leaning to rolling out Thursday morning and getting in Atlanta that evening around dinner time. Hanging out Friday and Saturday, and heading home Sunday. Or heading home Saturday if they head West for Texas.

Oh Good Heavens.... We knew this pic was going to show up again... ;)
-
I will have more details next week, but they will probably leave Texas first on or around Thursday, get to Atlanta Friday Night or Saturday, then Saturday would be all of the areas where they filmed the movie and Sunday would be the Year One Experience show. More to come......
-
Not to upstage anybody but I found this on the Bandit Trans Am Clubs site today:
This is it! To commemorate the 30 year anniversary of the release of the original Smokey and the Bandit movie, we are putting together a cruise to retrace the route Bandit and Snowman took in that film!
We plan to start in Texarkana, Texas and drive through Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama and then on to Georgia. Our destination will be Atlanta and the YearOne Experience which is May 18-20, 2007.
The exact start date and locations for the cruise are still being planned. But if you would like to participate, please let us know by filling out the entry form below. The cruise will likely begin 3 days prior to the start of the YearOne Experience. Dallas will likely be the gathering place for the pre-start.
The YearOne people already have Hot Rod TV and TLC scheduled to shoot the events of the YearOne Experience. And, they have suggested we allow them to shoot our cruise as well. Plus, press from national car magazines may also ask to tag along! This means your car could end up in the glossy pages of a cool national publication!
Once at the YearOne Experience, Bandit Run participants will be treated to a special welcome reception and ticket discounts. Plus, we’ll be allowed to take a ceremonial lap around the scenic 2.54-mile road Atlanta Grand Prix course.
As an added surprise, the folks at YearOne have just announced they are working in conjunction with the Bandit himself, Burt Reynolds, to build a new resto-mod series of 1977 Bandit Style Trans Ams. Move over Eleanor, the Bandit is here! And if that’s not enough, they are even working on getting Burt as a special guest at the YearOne Experience! For more information on all the events at the YearOne Experience, please visit their site at www.yearone.com.
Trans Ams and F-Bodies of all years are welcome, but please let us know if you have a black 76-81 TA model or SE. There may be a nominal fee to join the cruise, to cover basic expenses related to planning, giftbag goodies, etc, but don’t worry about that right now.
Please e-mail the following info to banditrun07@yahoo.com if you would like to participate!
Name:
Address:
Phone:
E-mail:
Type of TA/F-body you plan to drive:
Any suggestions?
If you live in Texas, Arkansas, Mississipppi or Alabama, would you like to help us organize the route?
Seeing how this thing ENDS in Atlanta, HELL yea!! We're going!!
-
Man how I would love to participate in the whole thing!!!!!! I would have to give up STARS and The National's to do it......So probably not going to happen, but I will be at The Georgia end of the event.....Ok.....I want Burt to sign the inside of my glovebox.... :D
-
I am GUESSING here but went ahead and booked a room at the Best Western, Braselton, GA. Seeing how its a stones throw from Road Atlanta and its where Year One's headquarters are, I took a shot. BECAUSE, when the announcements ARE made, stuffs going to fill up fast. Nothing like a good hole shot to beat 'em off the line. 8)
-
hmm did you ask about a group rate ?
-
Did it online just to be quick. You have until day of event to cancel. Was 314.00 for 3 nights at the AAA rate.
-
Ta2dbandit -- yeah, 3.73:1s can get kind of "droney" on the road for a long time -- great on the strip and local streets, not so great for a long road trip. :? 8)
I may have to massage the car a little. Gas to get there and back will be bad enough.
Hey Tin Indians, Are you taking the big truck?
-
I sure glad I have the 2.56 gears and not 3.73's in mine. But Spartanburg, SC is a little shorter drive than Ohio. I just have to fix the pump to torque converter seal before I can go.
-
Anyone from Michigan going?
-
I'm coming from Wisconsin!
-
so brett any new details ? im now 100% going....its the last thing im doing before basic so im excited....anyway anybody wanna run a convoy from ohio area?
-
no updates yet, I am working on the licensing issue right now.

-
I look forward to the details so I can plan my trip. Going to drive my 78 Trans Am up to Atlanta for that one...should be a blast. :D
-
Mark I'm thinking of rolling out after work Thursday night and getting in 4 hours of drive time. Then up early Friday and do the other 6 hours. Sunday roll out in the evening and stay over somewhere when I get tired then finish it Monday morning. Should be a fun weekend, no pressure, just drive the car around.
-
I will be traveling from NC to GA for the Year One Experience, but do not trust my Bandit to go all the way to TX and back. What I would like to do is travel to the GA line and join you guys coming back in. Also would anyone else be interested in this? I will be running a CB and have my cell, I need to get in contact with someone in the group running from TX so I can cordinate meeting up with you guys, even if it's joining from the side of the road.
-
I'm actually looking for someone to join me from WI or somwhere along the way. My brother and I are coming but I would really like to find one more driver if I can.
-

I signed up through the Motortopia site... is that all I have to do?
Is anyone forming a caravan from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana or Illinois...?? I don't want to drive it by myself.
-
Yes, I will be putting up a map for us Northrener's for a caravan down South.
-
Thanks Brett... looking forward to it! :D
-
Sure wish I could go, that looks like a lot of fun! Someone take a laptop and post pics whenever you come across a WiFi area that you can use the internet. That would be cool to see pics of the trip as it was progressing.
-
If things hold out and I can go I plan on taking lots of pictures and running a lot of video also.
-
I'll be taking lost of pics and video as well.
-
Way to many shows to pick from this year, cant go them all.

The Bandit Run Retraces the "Smokey and the Bandit" Route to Commemorate the Film's 30th Anniversary in 2007
Trans Ams and F-Bodies of all years are gathering to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the movie "Smokey and the Bandit." Restore a Muscle Car LLC (www.RestoreaMuscleCar.com), Motortopia (www.Motortopia.com) and 78ta.com are organizing a cruise to retrace the route driven by Bandit and Snowman. The final destination will be Atlanta and the YearOne Experience which takes place May 18-20, 2007.
Hot Rod TV and TLC are scheduled to film the events of the YearOne Experience in Atlanta, GA. Hot damn! I wish like Hell I'd gotten my '79 a few months ago! I'm not sure I can have it ready to pull off a road-trip of that distance in time! Any chance this will become a yearly event?
On the off chance that I can make 'er road worthy by then, have we made a plan for an Ohio caravan? In my experience, the caravans are always the most fun part of trips like this!
-
I'd love to go on the caravan from Texarkana to Atlanta. I live in Joplin Mo., so it wouldn't be far at all to get to Tx. I'm gonna go to my mechanic friend, and see if he'll help me get the car ready for a long run. I'll have to ask my boss for that weekend off also, but that shouldn't be a problem. The only thing that is that my car won't be back into restored shape by then. Wish me luck! And the 17th is my birthday, so that would be a great present to myself!!!!
-
Here is the route info.....I was starting to worry ;D
http://www.motortopia.com/groups/news_view/id/210/item/290/i/the_route
-
thanks z1 i was beginning to worry myself...
-
Dang it, I wished my car would have been finished in time for this. I would have loved to make the trip.
Do you think they will do it again in the future?
-
I think the whole point of this is the fact that this year marks the 30'th anniversary. I doubt it will make an appearence next year.
-
now just need bretts directions for the convoy down ??? hint hint hint

Special Report - April 2007
Texas TA Mufflers named official sponsor of The Bandit Run 2007.
http://www.thebanditrun.com/
About a year ago we got to thinking that 2007 would be the 30th anniversary
of the Smokey and the Bandit movie, and that we should do something to
commemorate it. So we planned to have a Diablo Sandwich cook-off and
Tater-Tot toss out at the old Texas Trans Am Service and Restoration shop.
However, we met up with some friends and enthusiasts at the Dallas Autorama
who had the crazy idea of gathering as many Bandit and non Bandit Trans Ams
as they could, meet in Texarkana TX on the 15th of May and convoy to Atlanta
GA.
We decided that their idea was better and signed on as the official Muffler
of the Bandit Run. Besides, anybody restoring a unibody is going to need a
low profile muffler.
So, please log on the Bandit Run site, won’t you. Sign up for the discussion
and tell 'em TexasTAMufflers.com and TexasTransAms.com sent you. (It 'll
make us look good.) If you can make the trip, we look forward to seeing you!
And if you'r running our mufflers, we look forward to hearing you!
While you are still on-line check out the latest resto-mod at Texas Trans Am
Service and Restoration. It's Melanie's 1981 Turbo Trans Am. But it's not a
301 anymore... Under hood modifications begin with a four core Rodney Red
racing radiator. The heartbeat of this car is a 383 C.I.D. small block
engine with 18 degree aluminum NASCAR racing heads, ceramic coated Headman
headers, aluminum March pulley system. Solid engine mounts dropped the
height of the engine a little over 1 inch, increasing the hood clearance and
lowering the car's center of gravity. Another 2 inches were cut from the top
of the 18 degree Edelbrock Victor intake manifold to make clearance for the
carburetor and air cleaner under the stock hood.

This is a video with sound of a 700+ horsepower 383 CID "Cup Car" engine on
Texas TA Mufflers. The exhaust includes long tube headers, full length 3
inch pipes and X-pipe through 3 inch dual chamber Texas TA Mufflers. Wait
until your boss is at lunch, because you are going to want to turn this one
up.

Wow, I thought this had fallen apart and was to be no more. Well, who ever is going. Have a good time and post pics as soon as you can.
-
If Burt doesnt show that would be a huge let down for this celebration. 8)
-
Burt won't be there, good chance the car won't be either. I'm sure some where, at some time this year Burt will appear to celebrate the 30th anniversary of that movie. There's still 8 months left in this year for him to do something.
-

Hot rod magazine just did an article...and from the sound of it the car and burt are still supposed to be at the show?
-
As the World Turns.... ;)
-
Yea I just saw that David Hall from Restore a Muscle car is posting up new info on TAC. Supposedly they now have a VERBAL agreement from Burt to be in Atlanta for the Year One event. They also claim to be running 2 new Bandits around the track making films of them. Now, all the ones on the fence about going are swinging back the other way. If they do have all this going on, that will be great for them and I hope it all happens.
I'll stay home, maybe better things to come......
-
If I had 700 dollars to just waste on gas, I would so be there. Although, I think a 2300 mile round trip in the TA would be pretty grueling. It's not the most smooth riding automobile.. Now if I lived in texas or georgia, I would definately go.
