I have bad news for you here. Going back and looking at the build sheet you posted it shows that you're supposed to have the W72 engine package. (Look in the same column as the Y88 code, a few entries up) That right there rules out this L78 engine as the original.

Man Larry - you beat me to that one - I just finished looking at his build sheet and was going to post the same thing ;)

Yes Joker. I just noticed that on m build sheet it says PWC engine code which is a 1978 W72 motor.
and what I have right now is a XA engine code 400 L78, I think ... right...?

what are the differences between these two motors? are there any?

Not the best news, but you have a Y88 with a Pontiac 400 engine.  The W72 would have had more desireability as it was a slightly higher HP optional engine.  Probably not quite the value that it would have with the original engine, but - hey - until recently you didn't even know you had a Y88, right?

Now its a "1977" which I know now...... L78 400ci  with.....

fordged pistons bigger crank, bigger manifold .30 over with some head work.

She goes like S#!@#(@!#...

Do you know how much stroke the new crank has ,and do you like the way the engine runs having more stroke .
Could you post a video of your T/A  from a dead stop to when the wheel spin quits ,that would be intersting to see

From a dead stop wheel spin? Well my car is a 4spd, what is it you want to see in the video? How Do I figure out my stroke?
