what are the differences?
« on: May 06, 2010, 10:40:23 AM »
for example, between a 77-78, and a 79 T/A Y84?

1. ive read something about wheel openings
2. on different years does the pheonix face different directions?
3. Im aware of tail lights and front bumper/headlights... somebody mentioned that people like to watch a certain years' tailights for whatever reason... do they dance or something?
4. any interior differences?

1 yes there were two different style snow flake pattern one with bigger openings. Second the bird does face different ways depending on the year and idk about the tail lights and as for interior the door panels changed throughout the second gen cars but other than that and a 160 spedo they are basicly the same

Not sure what you mean here...

2. on different years does the pheonix face different directions?

The birds head faces opposite ways dependng on the year.
'73-'78 - faces to the left ...'79-'81 faces the right side of the car (except for Turbo models which face left).

somebody mentioned that people like to watch a certain years' tailights for whatever reason... do they dance or something?

No dancing lights lol   The only difference I can think of is that '81 only has the bird on the gas door. '74-'78 are the same lights and '79-'81 are the same with the exception of the '81 I mentioned.

4. any interior differences?

The main difference in interiors between those years would be if the interior is standard or deluxe. '78-'81 also offered different seats and door panels vs the '77.

I know that the center console is different from 77-78 & 79, but it's something barely noticeable. I was watching an F-Body warehouse video about installing dash caps and they mentioned something about it.

Dancing lights wasnt the appropriate term...  there was a kit that makes them chase in the direction the turn signals are signaling.

"Sequential turn signals" is the term you're looking for.  The 68 Cougar had them, and YO sells a kit to make them do that, I think.

I think you mean the difference in the space above the radio opening, right?

The tail light bezels were body color in 1977.  In 1978, they were body color at least through January.  Then they went black.  It appears that the bezels were body color but painted over in black at the factory.  But I'm not positive about that.  I've seen a couple of examples where the black paint is wearing off and there's the body color underneath.  But lots can happen in 30 years.
