1977 T/A original AC compressor number?
« on: August 06, 2015, 12:19:01 AM »
Hi all, anyone have an unrestored 1977 Firebird or T/A with air that still has the original compressor?  I'm trying to find the part number or "model number" that's on the decal, thanks!

Prob has part number in the 76-81 parts manual. As for decals, there's only so many repro'd, none date stamped.

Thanks for the reply.  I'd like to find an original part with decent condtion label and have it restored.  I did this with another car I have and it worked well.  Masked off the decal and sent it to a shop that would take care not to damage it.  They refurbished it and it's exactly like original, case decal and all.  Actually saved a few dollars this way too!

Anyone know the number out there?  Maybe have a picture?  Maybe even have a rusty old hunk of one they'd like to sell?

I did find a pic in the magazine article with an unrestored 77 SE that would have the correct number and not a newer revision as found in the parts books.  It's hard to read the number though.  I see the large three numbers are 738.  On my 1969 vintage car those numbers are the last three of the longer model number.  This longer number is unclear in the picture though.

If no one replies in a few hrs I'll have a look when home from work, have various original photos and part manuals. Some of those restoration guides have lots of part listings too, mine are stored elsewhere.

Thanks for the info.  Those numbers check out to be 1972 vintage, maybe someone swapped it out previously?  The original would have a black/silver/yellow Delco Air label instead of black/red or black/blue of the older years.

I'm attaching a pic from the unrestored 213 mile 1977.  One of the larger numbers is damaged and I cannot make out the smaller number, it's too blurry.

Anyone out there have any more pics from an unrestored one?

Couldn't find any reference to that number, various options for '77.

Here's the repro version for #5910738

Hi there, thanks for the link!.  I think we've solved this.  I had guessed the model would have been 5910738 but couldn't verify with the blurry pic.  Usually the last three on the model number match the large digits but when I had searched for a 5910738 decal they had 038 for the large digits which seemed odd.  The decal in the link you sent states it's correct for the 77 and the large numbers match my pic 738 and the model number also matches.  Looks like they have the correct decal for the correct application.  Mystery solved, thanks again!
