77 Roof Replacement
« on: August 01, 2006, 02:37:38 PM »
I'm thinking about replacing my current non t-top roof that previous owner put a sunroof in with a t-top roof.  I think I can use a donor 76 or 77 roof because they are both Hurst style but not totally sure.  Anyone ever do this before?

I don't think it would matter if it's Hurst or Fisher t-tops, because you'd just be  welding (or however it's attached) the new roof on. As long as it matches up.

It is not that hard to do.  You have to use the windshields and the rear windows to make sure you have everything lined up again.  You can use either the 76 or the 77 roof or even early 78 roofs that had the Hurst t-tops.

If you could give a little bit of detail on how it's done, I would really like to know. Thats one thing I haven't done but would like to possibly try on a car sometime. I know that on the t-top 81 I have, there are at least 3 layers of steel in the front post plus the finished sheet metal on the outside. How do you weld all 3 of those pieces and have it structurally sound? i actually cut a front post out of a 79 t top car to salvage the outer skin since mine was rusted. After I cut it, I looked at it for a while trying to figure out how one would replace a roof. Any answers from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
