Hey there, I have never worked with an AC system so I wasn't sure what parts were needed to have a whole thing running. My current car had it completely removed by the previous owner and I was wondering if someone could give me a nice little explanation of what I would need and how to get it installed? Sorry  if thats asking for a bit too much.

What engine do you have?  Try to find a donor car.  That's the best way.

Well
You need a condenser that is mounted at the radiator support.
A evaporator that is located in the heater box on the firewall.
A compressor on the motor.
And all the related plumbing and mounting brackets.
Not to mention the heater / AC controls and cables inside the car.
And don't forget about the wire harness.
It is a large under taking to do this.
If the car had AC before and it was removed. Then you wont
have to do much at the firewall. That will help a lot.

I bought my entire ac system (except condensor) on ebay one piece at at time.  It took a while to locate everything, but its worth it down here in Texas. :)

Referring to S76guy, The vehicle still has all the controls and the wiring is visibile from the firewall; I've been wondering if an aftermarket product would work just as well or would I be better off with an original? These next few weeks I'm heading to the junk yard to scout some Firebirds, hope I can find something interesting.

stick with the OEM equip. it will plug up, bolt up and will fit. Good luck hunting.

Where can you send original equipment to get refurbished?  Seems a shame to restore a car and have it looking all nice and the a/c looking haggard........

Check with your local AC or radiator place.
They should be able to help.
Also the compressor and other parts are available from
places like Autozone and the Repo shops like Classic Ind, etc.
