removing weather striping?
« on: January 28, 2009, 08:04:35 PM »
I am working on my 1979 t/a and the weather striping comes off but there is alot of stuff left and is is a pain to get off. I have been using a razor and scrapers and only some comes off is there a tool or a liquid that I can use to help with the removal?

There is no special tool that I know of to do that.  You might want to try some "goo-gone" or something like that to try and help.

I removed my old weather stripping on my 79 last fall.  I used some small plastic putty knives and "goo gone" as Hitman suggested.  Worked pretty good, just long and tedious.

are you just replacing weatherstripping or are you going on a paint job ? if you are going on a paint job, a low speed wire wheel will do the trick, snap on makes some that go on an air grinder that is a low bristle count and really tears the hell out of anything not supposed to be attached to the car.....
