It's not my garage no, just where I have it parked during wintertime ;) The 73 Camaro belongs to a friend of mine :) He is busy with the wiring in the engine bay and installing a TH700R4 tranny and a "new" 383 stroker engine. We have 9 cars standing in there during winter time :) Two projects that's never moving again, among them a 70 Chevelle with a 454 (not number matching ) . And the rest are driveable and most in good condition :)

That color is amazing, maroon and green are the two best colors on a car IMO but of course I have a black Y84. I love your car
Thanks, i really love tha color too. Will have to strip it soon, because it has some rust under and the paint is starting to blister at some points. But will paint same color, only this time i'll have the 81 decal put, instead of the 80 that are on right now.
-
Trevor, Your '02 would look Perfect next to my '78 in "MY" garage, haha! I just love that car!

Alright, my car handles just as good as a TA and green is great on these cars as Ta6point6 stated. Couldnit resist posting another pic

Kinda reminds me of my Bird when it was painted back in the 90's. Was it a real 70-73 T/A, or a Franken-bird?
Geno
Geno it was most definitely a Franken-bird and I loved it. Started life as a midnight metallic blue Esprit with a black vinyl top when I was 17, and slowly I turned it into the car I really wanted. Full TA suspension with disc brake rearend, '79 hobnail interior, 400 with a Doug Nash 5-speed......this was back when factory parts were cheap and plentiful.....I think I paid something like $300 for a pair of NOS full rear quarters at a local dealer back then!

I love the early Formula hoods!! 8)
-
That hood.looks unusual.. I thought the formula got the shaker only if it was a SD-455 and then it didn't have the formula scoops on it
-
Formula never had a shaker. He made it into what he wanted it to be and that is fine with me. I really like the looks of that one. Very sharp!

I do really like the look of It. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't seeing things ;D it does look good. The SD-455 Formulas had a T/A hood instead of a Formula one so I thought id ask

the formula sd-455 in 73 and 74 came with factory shakers and no traditional hood scoops. i have seen 4 of them first hand and they are way cool looking.
very rare car.

Looks AWESOME!!!! What size tires?
-
Mine. Original owner, 11,300 original miles from new, unrestored, survivor.
-
Dude that's incredible. Crazy how its so low mileage and in such great shape. You must've barely ever driven it all the way from 1977. Very nice :)
-
Thanks, here is a shot of the W72 400-cid engine.
-
And, one more of the engine compartment. With the exception of about 30% paint blending on the engine, all finishes under the hood are factory applied. This is what under the hood of a new 1977 Trans Am looked like from the factory.
-
How did you keep it in such good shape for the 25 or so years you've had it? Im really impressed
-
That is a VERY sharp car and I commend you for keeping it so nice but that must be boring to have such a nice car and to never drive it. I could never just have a garage queen.

Yeah same here.
-
I retired my 78 back in 82, and I still have racked up 46,000, thats low! :o
-
not so much. my '56 olds has 41k. That my friend, is low. less than 750 mi /yr
-
Looks AWESOME!!!! What size tires?
Year One's 17" x 9" Honeycomb rims along with a set of Nitto 555's, 285/40 for the rear and 255/45 for the front - I really like how they fill the wheel wells. Thanks for the compliment too!
A bunch of beautiful Birds in this post!!

Here are pictures of my Car, undergoing some interior work
http://s1070.photobucket.com/albums/u498/ktowns1980/
-
After taking delivery in March 1977, I basically kept clean and detailed. Always garaged and covered. It has held up very well. Even the original tires are not weather checked. Interior still smells new. During a Sept 2002 a magazine photo shoot, mileage was 11,367. I remember the mileage as I have a photo of the odometer taken at shoot. Today, mileage is 11,382. That is 15 miles in nearly 10 years.
-
I envy you all. I just found out today that our income tax isn't going to be enough to get my car street ready, nor purchase a street ready body to put my motor and tranny in. Which means my dream of having a T/A for my first car is over. It really sucks but nothing can be done I suppose. Keep posting pics guys. I love to see them. Even if its all I can do

Im sorry buddy. Still keep working on the car though. I hope your not giving up on it completely. It took me years of saving parts, saving money etc so I could build a car. Just keep buying what you can afford and look for deals on needed parts. your car may not be on the road for your 16th Bday, but it will eventually get there.

I was 18 years old when I bought my 1979 T/A back in 1982.

Here's a ton of pictures of my 71 T/A clone. Some good videos too. I'm always adding stuff as I go. Bought the bird in July '10 - was a total granny car. Now its 98% done (need to add T/A gauges). It's definitely worth checking out. Oh yeah, my 71 455 Lemans is on the site too :) The T/A went head to head with the Lemans...you can read all about it - 350 vs 455. I know, the 455 should be in the T/A...

Cool. I'm in Northern Jersey in Short Hills, about 20 minutes West of the Holland Tunnel.

Oh ok, up in the congested area!

Nice gold TA.
-
I always liked the gold cars. The 79 nose can look funny with some colors, like it's too long. But on the gold it seems to blend in really well. Nice car!
-
the 80 copper Formy I had was the same way. It made the nose look sleeker.
-
Thanks Geno. The rally gauges for the 71 is my last project, I have all the parts. I've never seen a 71 t/a with the dark saddle interior (other than my clone) Something a little different.
-
White or blue is good on 79-81 as well.

Why a 40 on the rear and a 45 on the front. Isn't a 45 taller?
-
I thought all car guys knew this but here goes:
The numbers 40 and 45 in above tire sizes are PERCENTAGE of the tire width, which makes the 285/40 114 mm high, and the 255/45 is 114,75 mm high, a tad higher but not noticeable.

So yes I was right, the front is taller, no need to be condescending, I guess what I don't understand is why not use the same size then on all four corners...
-
first number is width in mm (285mm) second number is sidewall height (40mm) 45mm etc...

I'm sorry if I came off as condescending, must be a language thing, english is not my native language, it was not my intention.
Yes you were right, the 255-45 is higher than 285-40, by 0,0295 inches (0,75 mm), was it this you pointed out? To me, that is pretty darn close, it's the thickness of a nail, sheet metal or the graphite rod in a graphite pen, as I said, not noticeable. You will probably wear off more rubber in a couple of burnouts.
-
first number is width in mm (285mm) second number is sidewall height (40mm) 45mm etc...
Sorry Joe, you got it wrong on the sidewall height, it's PERCENTAGE (%) of the tire width. 40 % of 285 mm is 114 mm.
Same numbers in inches: 11,22 inches wide and 4,48 inches sidewall height.

Ok, so so maintain the same heights and a narrower front tire, you have to go with the 45 in front and 40 in rear. Got ya.
-
To answer the question, I wanted as much tire out back but still have about the same height tire - in the Nitto 555's that is the closest set that got what I wanted.
-
Thats cool, I just wondered

Here's my 77 T/A driver. It's not as nice as the others posted here, but it's mine.
As far as I have been able to determine, it still has the original paint job and decals that have faded over the years.
I'd like to have it painted, but hesitate to do so because of the original paint.
