1979 w-72 ws6 4-speed project value
« on: June 09, 2011, 11:53:53 AM »
I'm looking at one of these, body is rust free, needs everything though- paint, interior, possible engine rebuild.   The car is a hardtop with air.   It looks like they are 15-20 if done nicely.   Any opinions on value would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have 12-15k or more in work, to make a 15-20k car.

Hey smaman,
Welcome to 78 Ta!!
It is hard to guess what it'd be worth without pictures. Just remember, you will ALWAYS have more in the car than what you can buy a finished one for. That is, if you do it correctly and not cut corners.
NOT INVESTMENTS.

Can be worth more if numbers matching with the PWH coded 400, and done right. Make sure it has the "Z" code in the vin and not a clone.

x2.  Unless you own a full-on resto/custom shop, buying this car for a flip would not be a good investment in my opinion....even if you can get it for $500.  Now, if you're buying it to enjoy for years to come and are needing some justification to the Mrs, than it'll be worth $25k when you're done!  ;D  When can we see some pics?

I have one like it, WS6, W72 400/ 4 speed hardtop with air and numbers match. I will ask $17,000 when finished. Motor/tranny/clutch rebuilt less than 25K so that should not need touching (fingers crossed) I do have rust though so my body work will be more. I already have a brand new interior ready to go in, including new/reconditioned plastic panels. The color is Solar Gold.

Here is a pic...originally silver with tan interior.   Probably a somewhat unusual combination, but I think it would look nice done.   Somebody spray bombed it black.   Thanks for all the the responses guys.

Another pic...you do need imagination...and money.  Really the only thing this car has going for it is good options and a proportedly solid body.    Thanks again for the responses.    Anyone willing to put a number on it?

Hard to say with just 2 pics, and not knowing if it's numbers matching. Just by what I see $2000 to $4000 , and thats if the uderbody is solid. Looks like a fun project though. Silver and Camel? That is not to common. Most silver came with black or red. Did you get or look for a build sheet for it?

Working on a 79 4 speed myself. Not numbers matching. Some kids done blowed up the original 400, so I had to settle on the 455.

I going to give about that for this one. WS6/W72/4 speed  runs with very little rust.

Neat car.   I guess I am in the ballpark.  From the front seat it looks like yours came equipped with the rare and highlty desirable 20x20x1 air filtration system.

Man, wow I'm speechless. Can't find a 4-spd car for crap, much less that little money!!!
