Looking to rejoin the Trans Am Family. I have been searching long and hard for a 77-79 with a Pontiac 400, 4 spd and t-tops. I am ultimately looking for something i can drive and tinker on over time. I came across a 1979 the other day and I am struggling on what my offer should be. It has the original Pontiac 400 with the original 4 speed tranny so fairly rare. The current owner has had it for about 20 years (had 60,000 miles on it when he bought it - now has 120,000). He thought it was repainted shortly before he purchased it so the paint job is also about 20 years old. It has some spider cracking on the bumper covers and some paint chips here and there but nothing major so paint will be good for a while. I don't see any signs of bondo or rust on the body panels and the underside seems very solid..very little surface rust on the underside even. The interior definitely needs some work (seats, headliner, door panels, carpet, etc). It looks like some pieces have been refinished at some point in its life. Ultimately I am not too concerned with the interior as I may look to change the color anyway. It has the 4 wheel disc brakes, rear defrost, power windows, Deluxe interior and NO A/C. The engine seems to run strong, no knocks or anything like that. The current asking price is $10,000, NADA value with these options is $11,300 low. TransamFlorida.com has a similar car, definitely NOT in as good of condition, and is asking $11,500 for it. I was thinking of offing $8900.
Thoughts?
