any audiofiles out there?
« on: August 19, 2008, 11:47:06 AM »
Got a problem with my home system and wonder if anyone had done this before... blew out one of my speakers on my home theater sound system and wondering how hard it would be to re-ring the cone and how durable is the repair? I know most would just replace the speaker but I kinda prefer the sound of my Klipsch setup.

Hi, my name's Brad, and I'm an audiofile.....  ;D

I've seen the repairs done, but by repair shops. The repairs I've seen have been as good as original........ these have been on mobile and home stuff............ usually consist of a re-cone, not sure if they will just replace the surround.

Hi rarebird, I'm also a home theater junkie.

You should be able to get your speaker fixed, I would be curious if the voice coil didn't also get damaged.
I need to find someone here in STL that can fix speakers, I have a pair of late 80's db+'s that need to be re-coned thanks to an ex-room mates' cats.

I have no idea how they test the frequency response of their speakers, like if you need to give them the bad speaker and a good one, so they can try to "match" the working one.

Keep us posted.

I've performed the operation you describe.  It is a royal pain in the butt.  If you can get a new driver from Klipsch, that is the route I would recommend.  But, if you want to fix it, Parts Express used to sell kits for replacing the surround.  I don't know if still sell them.

I don't like the idea of reconing ,as I have seen them come apart sooner than  normal. I don't know if they don't use the proper epoxies like the factory ,or what ?
I agree with the comment about ordering the same driver new from the company. I would jump ship to another brand if they can't provide you with another one . I know it's a big investment ,but I love my Parading studio's

Hammer - I use to have the same set of Vegas until recently =\
I don't have room for them anymore so I traded them for an rc car.
haha. I miss 'em

and IF someone is looking for mp3s I wouldn't use limewire.
I would suggest searching for torrents on mininova or something.
and i would suggest installing peer guardian.

Yeah, there's plenty of audio files.  Just do a google search. mp3 is a pretty common file type.   What are you looking for?  ;)
