10 bolt rear end
« on: June 21, 2011, 12:26:43 PM »
On my 79 T/A i have went with 4.56 gears with no extra modifications. That was with the olds 455 with 100hp shot of nitrous and it held together. I recently put in a ZZ502 and i don't think that the rearend is going to take it? What modifications to the rear will help it withstand this power, i know going to a 12 bolt or a 9" ford is the best idea but i want to make this 10 bolt work because i have already spent some money on it. I see that moser makes forged axles for the ten bolt that still use the c-clips, could this be a good way to go? Thanks in advance.

Some moser axles with c-clip eliminators and a rear end girdle should make that rear handle some serious power.

If i go with the moser axles do i really need c-clip eliminators? I thought that if i go to the strong moser axles there is no need for the eleminators because hopefully i wont break the axles and makes the rear wheels go flying. :) I don't want to use the c-clip eliminators because the car is sometimes on the street and i heard that they are pron to leaking? What do you mean by rearend girdle?

The c clip eliminators keep the axle from coming out , if you break axle gears or the carrier breaks.I would have the axle tubes welded .I twisted the axle tubes on my car it was not pretty.
