I love driving my car now that it is painted but it just goes to show you are never truley done. My car has a gas smell around by the fuel tank. Is the gas cap supposed to be vented or non. I have the charcoal cannister hooked up and do not smell gas in the front just by the tank a little. How does the filler neck fit in the tank? It does not look like it is leaking from there but is that is not a tight seal maybe that is causing it. All the hoses have been replaced

same here. lots of pressure built up/ Can hear it hissing out of fuel cap. When I twist it open..lots of built of pressure comes out. Fuel cap is original. There is a small hole in the center off inside of cap. No fuel smell at canister. Waiting for an answer

Not sure what either of you drive but by the late 70's with charcoal canister etc the caps are vented. The early type seal completely like a valve cover cap with fibre gasket to seal. The later models are the same as now, flip them over and they have the plastic pressure release valve inners. These can fail over time.
It's good to check on the condition of your hose connections above the tank and on the sides above the exhaust. These can be perished and weeping but not enough to drip.
