Wanted to buy 1977 or 1978 TA
« on: January 01, 2009, 03:09:14 PM »
Hello everyone.

I am looking for a 1977 or 1978 T/A with T-tops, black and gold, etc...  I don't REALLY care about the Y82, WS6 bull crap, a replica is fine with me as long as the price matches what it really is.  I just want a nice looking, nice running car.

If you know of anyone that is wanting to sell, please let me know.

I'd like to keep it right at $20K.  From what I have seen, that is a pretty sharp car.  I've found a few for $16K that are also pretty nice.
As far as location, anywhere in the states and maybe Canada.  Everywhere is just a flight away these days!

Your car has 2 strikes.... its a '79 and it is a 4 speed!  Sorry, bro!  But thanks!!!!!

Yea, I've been looking at those, too.  There is a WS6 and they guy wants $19K for it (includes shipping).  It is this one here:

I am just not sure about the price on that particular car.....

So, obviously you guys think this car is worth the money?  I asked him is low price and he said $17,900 but I would have to take care of shipping it.  But the car is 1,500 miles away...ONE WAY....

I found a 1977 T/A that has new paint, decals, interior and a new 350 crate motor, t-tops - pretty nice... it looks pretty good and he wants $14,000.  I just didn't know now much the 350 engine would hurt it, not being original and all.

I'd offer $17K and get it shipped...but you might wanna' see if there is someone local to the car (familiar with T/A's or classics) that can look it over in person before you commit. I see a few cosmetic things wrong with it but it's still a good looking car.

As far as the '77, yeah the SBC would affect re-sale value but if you're only lookign for a good cruiser car and not that worried about originality, it might be a good deal.
You could always track down a Pontiac 400/455 to build for it later ;)

Hey Jeff
I was thinking about offering $17K shipped to see if he bites.  If he says YES, I would fly out there and look it over - not that I know what I am looking for, but at least I could see the blemishes and see if I could live with it.

I didn't see any obvious blemishes in the pictures, but again...I am no "old car" buff and I over look allot of small details and things, especially in pictures!!!

Just to point out a few things with that car that stand out to me.  First, the stripes were all done cheaply with a roll of stripes and not done that well. Some of the stripes are missing and others are placed wrong, etc.  The window molding(trim) should be painted black and not silver like they are.  Front "Trans Am" name is in the wrong spot.  Grilles are not painted gold. (I know it is a clone, but still if you were going for a clone then these things should still be right).  The door emblems are wrong on the inside (I mean look at the drivers compared to the passengers) and so is the steering wheel.  He also states "I have restored 8 Trans Am so far, and this is my best job ever"..... well, if this is his best job ever.... I would hate to see the cars he did before this one.  He also says "A clean full restored Trans Am might sell for more than $48.000".... what world does he live in?

Those are just my opinions though.
