Indeed I do have the roof patch and I'll vouch for you anytime Mike! Well, as of this afternoon we have the patch cut out and fitting beautifully thanks to my father's level of incredible patience. The interior layer of metal is also fitting in quite nicely. It's all set to go, my dad is dead set on finding someone with a TIG welder to arc it in. From what he says it'll create the least amount of "oil canning" because it doesn't generate alot of heat. He said he saw it on that two guys garage show and remembered doing it along time ago but he doesn't want to try it himself because he knows I'll beat him up if he screws it. Not everyday you got someone sending you a roof from Kentucky, we only got one shot at this. I'll take a picture of the setup we got going tomorrow and post it up after my 8 hours are clocked -_-

We'll be waiting.  This is new territory for me, and a lot of others on here too, I'll bet.  I can't wait to see it welded in.   ;D

Yeah, we were looking some stuff up on the interwebz and found out that using a tig welder is definitely the way to go. Very low heat, and considering we HAVE to weld all the way around the entire patch, the less chance of heat the better. Knowing how bad this could go down, I'm going to record every second of it for future reference to all whom apply.

dont forget there in an anti warping gell you can buy from a  local body supply store. to help reduce the chances.

HyloCool is a thermal barrier gel you can use to prevent warping/distortion.
I've never used it but  I guess it couldn't hurt to try it.

If welded correctly, I don't think you'd have any problems with warpage. MIG welding is all I've used on sheet metal so far, with zero issues.
Trust me, if I can butt-weld quarter panels on without warping the metal/bodylines, a roof patch would not be an issue either.

also what i do since all i do is mig weld as well, I tack it then blow it with the blow gun to cool it down immediately and still go somewhere else to tack again. until i have formed a tack bead and easily grind smooth when finished but i must say , i would have rather replaced the whole roof skin to save all that mudding that will need to be done to make it look good.
