I'm one of those guys that will try anything. I can usually see how something is supposed to be done, and if it isn't one of those things that takes lots of time and practice to get right like auto painting, I can usually get it pretty close. (That is in both automotive and home repair ;) ) Nice thing is - no matter what I try and take on I know there's someone in here that knows how to do it right and can straighten me out. lol

mechanical on the SE I do myself...bodywork will be done by others, I do not have the patience to make it look like I will want it to.

Our other cars i send out to a shop for everything, would cost me more to do it at home than have somebody else do it and I can do a survey or two.

I dunno about you guys, but for me there's something theraputic about turning wrenches.  When I go out to work on one of my old cars, it's a chance to relax and "get away from it all".  I used to get frustrated with the cars when I got into something that had me stumped, now I look at it as another challenge.  I've learned a TON working on my T/A.  Tackling one project gave me the confidence to tackle another project and it just snowballed from there.  I rebuilt the whole car, I've fabricated patches and welded them in, I've replaced the entire suspension, I removed, assembled, and re-installed the powertrain and drivetrain, assembled the exhaust, fixed up and re-loomed the wiring harness, replaced the heater core, etc.  At this point, I don't think there is much on these cars that I can't handle.  If I do get absolutely stumped, all I have to do is ask here or at TAC and one of you guys will be able to get me pointed in the right direction.

Ummm...good point... :-\ :o

Hey -- Rich is getting discouraged about his engine.  I'm telling him if he could swap the cam with the block in the car, he can rebuild the engine himself.  It's not that hard.  And if he wanted to have somebody else actually remove the old engine from the car and set the new engine -- that's the hardest part of the work.  Just assembling the engine isn't that difficult.

Rick,
Have you ever seen an engine use that much oil?  I can't believe he's burning it.  He would have noticed the blue cloud behind him.

I have seen them use oil like that, but always with a blue cloud following them around if it was being burned.  Most of the time that kind of usage with no smoke = thrown from someplace, with the front or rear main seals being suspect.

But Eagle 1, when I said "use oil" I meant a quart every 75 to 100 miles!  It's hard for me to believe it's burning.  And he'd be sure to see it if it were leaking.  You would think the signs would be obvious....like you said fouled spark plugs and that plume of blue smoke billowing behind the car!
