Was there no insurance for something like this?
You can and he must have because he contacted my clubs president yesterday and told him he has just bought another TATA in the US and is in the process of sorting out the shipping
So a good end to a bad experience

Well, we used to...these photos have put off anyone wanting to try it anytime soon I think!

And I get paranoid and upset when a box of hood trim went missing, imagining container workers using the box to keep the container door open or stacked at the bottom of a heavy pile of engine heads. Mind you it has since been located and still on it's way so I'm still nervous about it.

I'm still getting over the fact the car was not insured. You would think the shipping company would require it or at least recommend it and mention that the useless level of protection against damage. It only takes someone careless to tap the car door on the container wall or forget they had a screwdriver in their pocket when sitting in it to unload. It only needs to be a small scrape or chip in the middle of the door and you may have to respray the side of the car just to blend in the metallic paint. I can't imagine it making it across on that journey without some sort of damage occurring.

Aaah good result then, kinda. Sounded as if he was going to be left high and dry. Hopefully the new TA is even better or it will leave a bad taste in his mouth for years. Wonder if he gets a good deal on his next RORO shipment :D

Hey Aus78Formula, this kind of shipping is 99% of the time controlled by the buyer (yourself), so you have to pay extra for sea insurance. When i got my TA shipped over I used a import company that specialised in bringing cars in from the US, they have it insured under their policy, oly extra insurance you can get is for the boat sinking!  Your car is covered until they crack the container doors open then its on my insurance.

They charge more that the drive on / drive off mobs but for an extra 2K its well worth it and better packed for travel. Im currently in the process of shipping out a 66 GTO at the moment and im using a company called USA to AUS, they handle all paper work and customes clearance, all I need to do is go pick the car up when it arrives here.

Like I said a little more expensive but well worth it to not have the stress of it all.

Fingers crossed for our new mate that his "new" TATA gets Downunder safe and sound and his enjoying his "dream car" with the rest of the guys and gals in Vic this summer!  8)

Im not here to insult people that ive never met, id rather say it to your face if i felt that way.

I have heard that back in the day some people were " exported " for the smallest of reasons.
