As some of you may remember from my intro. post I recently picked up a '74 T/A for my personal project, and let's just say the wife wasn't as impressed as I had hoped. Well, she has finally started to see the light and has been slowly falling in love with the 2nd gens. At first I was just thinking of it as "Sweet!!! Green light for new toys!" But it has recently gone much further. After my constant pointing out of cars while driving and the various catalogs/magazine paraphernalia laying around the house she has begun spotting birds and naming the years before I see them. She recently stated that she LOVES the '79-'81 style and wanted one for herself. Hmm....did I have a problem with getting permission to buy another project? You guessed it....no, no I did not.
For three years I have seen this car sitting at a house down the road out in the weeds. I have stopped multiple times and could never catch anyone home. I was driving by on the fourth and seen a fella out in the yard, pulled a quick u-ey and whipped in there. He said he bought it four years ago to "restore". I use that word lightly as he thought it was a '78 and was awful proud of the original "honeycomb" wheels. He started to take the interior apart and fell through the floor pan in front of the rear passenger seat. At that point he said "F-it!!" and walked away. I took a look and asked what he wanted for it. Said he wanted what he paid for it to get his money back so the lowest he could go was $200. I stood there stroking my chin like I was really contemplating it, did a couple of hmm's, while inside I was doing an Irish jig and considering wetting myself. Needless to say I hit the bank on Tuesday and drug her home. This is the first I have had time to get pictures.
She's rough, but that just makes it sweeter when ya get done. It was originally a 403 olds car, but he told me that it had been replaced before he got it with a 350. After doing some research I believe it is a late 80's 307 olds with the 7A heads. So that is going bye bye. The wife said she wants somewhat decent mileage so I will likely build up a Pontiac 350 I have sitting here out of a '74 Ventura, then stick a 4-speed auto behind it. Not really worried about being original with this one. She has pretty much made up her mind that it will be black, but she doesn't care for the gold decals and wants the burgundy decals on it. Anyone have any pictures of a black bird with burgundy decals? Anyways enough of my blah blah story. If I figured out the photobucket thing right, here are a few pictures I snapped.
