I was wondering about 60 series tires. Does that effect handling? Good or bad? I am limited in Tires size as I am in Saudi Arabia. I can get P225/R7015 but Firestone Firehawk GTA with whitewalls. Next are Firestone wide ovals but only 205 in a 65 or 60 series.
I am thinking to buy tires in states and ship on car. Goodrich T/A radials 225/70/15
I want kind of a factory look and I think that was factory size for 1978 TransAms.
Thanks
225/70/15 was the factory size for the WS6 on 8" wheels in 1978, but after that year that size was used by the factory on all Trans Am on both 7" and 8" wheels. If you look at any factory promo pics of a 1978 WS6 or a 1979-81 Trans Am, you're looking at that tire size.
Generally, more rubber = more grip and better handling, although bigger tires are more prone to "squirm" and some dartiness on center. 255 R60 15's will fit in the stock wheel wells of most Firebirds, though, without rubbing. They look wide, but not aftermarket wide. I have them on my '78 Trans Am, and like the way they look and handle.
