Right -- 75 (first year for the catalytic converter) was the switchover year.

well the 305 has its advantages and disadvantages, parts are cheap and easy to find, but its a 305 and you cant do too much to it to gain too much power for cheap, because your stuck with the small valves if you go any bigger they will flow worse...

as for the trannys, yes there is a pontiac tranny and a chevy tranny, they have different bolt patterns and are not interchangeable....

Well, the haynes manual that I ordered came in this morning, so hopefully tomorrow I can get over to the car to find out for sure which engine it has.
