Put them on Last night. Before you ask...Of course I still have my snowflakes....I know some of you oldies are going to lay into to me for the bigger wheels??? But let me know what you think....I had been looking at wheels for a while, found a great deal on these. Didn't want to ghetto my car out, but didn't want to get the same wheels that everbody else has. the stock wheels looked a little small and the year one snowflake billets are out of my price range
I went 18 in front, 20 in rear.
I wanted to keep the classic Muscle car look, but add a little extra to the stance and appearence of the good ole y88, I have never had aftermarket whells, surprisingly the care seems to ride alot smoother...

That car doesnt look right, oh wait it has wheel spoilers.
-
Im not feeling them. If they were 17s or 18s all the way around I might. Good looking wheel just to large IMO. Looks like a 4x4 almost.
-
Well, if you're happy then that's all that counts. Personally I wouldn't want them unless they had spinners on them -- that would complete the look, but that's just my $0.02. No offense intended, but you DID ask... :-\
-
They look pretty cool. I personally would have got 17's all around, but thats me.
But like Rick said, As long as you like them, thats all that matters.
-
Well im gonna buck the trend on this one, i think they look great, its your car and you should do as you feel.
If anything a slight lowering perhaps of the suspension........
for what its worth ive just fitted 19" rims to mine........ let the mud fly PML.
( i do have the 76 which will be standard, so im not all bad....? )
-
Looks good it's your car do it
-
Sorry, but I don't think it goes....too much wheel and not enough tire for me :) .
-
heres a better comparison

It's your ride, do what makes you happy ;D, but I prefer the snowflakes :)
-
Snowflakes all the way, looks ghetto, any T/A/or car)with big 17+ aftermarket wheels is ghetto, buts thats my opinion
-
I think they look pretty good, I like the year one rims better, but they're way too expensive
-
Looks ghetto to me as well. Or perhaps like a matchbox car. Either way, poor Y88 :(
But like everyone else said...it is your car afterall.
-
Wow. Thats different. Im not sure I like the wheels better but I like the car better now. What I mean is the stance your car had before just made those snowflakes look like they were 10 inch wheels. alot of wheel well space. But now it has a better stance. I dont think that the LOW profile tires will last long though. Not on muscle cars. You are brave for doing something different so Congrats to you.
-
I prefer the snowflakes :)
x2
-
It's a different look, as long as you like it, then it's cool!
-
I think they would look better with the car 1-2" lower. I like them.
-
thats what i was going to do but after this i dont think so.
-
I think it would flow better if you lowered the suspension a little bit. So the car wouldn't look like its sitting so much higher but, I know you probably wouldn't wanna mess with the suspension.
-
Could use a bit more tire, on both sets of wheels! But not actually there to check clearances!! Nice car!!
-
what backspacing and width are they, im planning on running the same combo but i want a deeper dish

i don't mind them. i think what would have looked sweeter is if you went with like 18's in the back and like 17s in the front, to give a more agressive look. almost looks to matchboxy. but its def unique and one of a kind
-
That car needs a drop bad. IMO - not feeling the wheels
-
I agree with OD Simple, but here's the thing JTY88, Everyone here except for a few are basically all stock people. I include myself in this category. I mean, I like Crager SS and Keystone Classics and Torque Thrust Twos like anybody else would, but I think that your rims would look better if the car sat lower and if they were a tad smaller with a fatter tire.
-
While I appreciate an all "stock" Trans Am, I also love to see how people "personalize" their car as well, would I choose that wheel? maybe, maybe not, I like the wheels on the car, but would also lower it a tad as well, to each his own I say. My car is far from original, but will appear mostly stock, I have yet to decide on my wheels yet.

Now this one looks good, looks lowered? YES? Has a good stance.
-
yea, she'll be lowered this winter. She's also getting some body work and paint done. I love my y88, love the solar gold and the four speed, the w72 pontiac 400. and I feel in love with the wheels. Wasn't sure when they first went one but after taking her to a couple local get togethers, I'm happy ( of course I will be happier once I put a lower kit on. Come next spring she will be a blemish free, rust free, number matching y88. well tranny and engine that is....
If I want to keep it all orginal I will throw the snowflakes back on. But for know I'm happy with the new look. I do like torque thrusts and crager ss wheels, but seems like every car at ashow is , torque thrust, crager, torque thrust, crager, torque thrust II, crager.
My wheels are Boss 338 they were very inexpensive, knock off foose legends and close to the COYS c5...I think it gave her that aressive new muscle look, without going overboard...definatally needs a little drop.
Thanks for your opinions....hope to show her off at nationals next year...
-
Fooses wheels are ugly and overpriced if that makes you feel any better. Good luck with your future endeavors on the car!
-
any three piece wheel is going to cost more just due to labor. I have a few buddies with foose wheels and they last. Deff drop it though. and maybe more meat on the tires would help. Maybe you can meet in the middle of the two.
-
JT_Y88 , i think what youre doing is great, sure its nice to see " original " cars...... but if everyone looked the same........

I like it/them. Very nice.
-
Thanks mate, i appreciate that.
Its an ongoing project.........
If i told you i ony paid $100 for the rims.......
-
youd paid just $100 for them?
-
Yes mate, they werent actually destined for a Pontiac though........ bless Ebay!
-
yeah ebay has been good to me a few times
-
Your rims look good. Very nice score on ebay! Ebay has been good to me a few time also, other time I end up getting in a bidding war with someone and end up loosing what I want. But I always seems to feel better when I know the other guy over spent on what we were bidding on. haha
-
SO youre the ONE !!
I did get banned from Ebay once, i got outbid at the last second on something that i was watching for days, i managed to get his email address through the bay and sent a load of abuse........ later that day i got thrown off.
I think theyve tightened it all up now.
And now back to the thread.........
Sorry it was about new wheels !!!! ;)
-
You mean you don't have those in your wal-mart???

-
haha...thanks great! Are those Hooter's wings I see??
-
Oh yes !!
-
Looks great where did you get them? and did you have to any mods to get them to fit
-
Hey JT_Y88,
I think they look pretty sweet... I am more an engine guy than a wheel guy but you have to love the shine.. I would be less worried about what people think and more worried about ripping out those drums... it is an easy change... if nothing else just spend $5 on some paint (make sure it is Brake paint or ya will be doing it again in a week..
-
paint Yea.... I got some left over high heat olds engine spray paint (Hitman refferred the universal Gold Color to me) when I refinished my snow flakes. Matches the Solar gold perfect. I will be doing some spraytainted this winter. I'd like to do a disc conversion in the rear...thought it would be more of hassle than anything else though??? You'd be happy that my engine was the first job to tackle.
Sir English, I like the look of those wheels, man you stole those from somebody. does that racing stripe cover the entire vehicle?
[attachment deleted by admin over 60 days old]
-
Thanks for the compliment, from such great company! Its your car mate, you should go with whatever you feel...
........ Id love rear discs too !!!!!!
Heres some more pics of my car..... its changed alot over the time ive had it....

JT_Y88...Love the valve covers. I think I am going to get those. They are sweet.

Sort of, Bondo " sinks back " however yes i did smooth it out, it only had a very light skim over the top, i have seen another " famous " 78 ta with a smooth nose and you can see the signs of sinkage in it.

I think your turned out very nice. In the far future when I paint mine I plan on the same thing. I think it gives it a slick look.

Year one sells 17x9 snowflakes if you wanted to save some money for a good price and still keep the good old look to it. I would put on your old snowflakes if it were me.
