Title: Pics?
Post by: turbota400 on March 11, 2007, 12:10:02 AM
Not to sound dumb, but how do I post pics in the forum and on my profile for my signature?

Do you already have your pictures uploaded to something like photobuckets. If not go to photobuckets and register, it's free, and then upload your photo that you want to post on the forum and in your signature. Let us know when that is done and we'll help you get em' on here. You'll be posting like a pro in no time.

How did you do it? When I try to put one in, it tells me there are too many characters in my signature.

The signature line is limited to 255 characters, so that is why when you put it in, it tells you that.

OK -- so what you have to do now is go to photobucket and click on the thumbnail you want to post to get the full-size pic.  On the page with the full-size pic you will find a link used for posting to message boards and forums.  It is a IMG link.  Copy that entire line, and come back here to 78TA.com and then paste it into the window you type your post into.  That should link that pic to your message.  Raise you hand if you have any problems and we'll help you figure it out. :) :)

Ok I am having a problem seeing all of some pictures.  The right side sometimes seems incomplete, all of the text is there but others talk about things I am not seeing on the picture. What do I need to do?

Buy glasses :D
Sorry, just kidding. Are you scrolling to the right all the way; maybe the pic is too big for your screen...

The screen won't scroll to the left or right. All of the text is on the screen but pictures are getting the right side cut off. BTW I am using a 21" screen so it should fit.

Man, wish I had a 21" screen, nice! Maybe it's your resolution?? Now that I think about it, I've had the same issue a couple times

Screen size has nothing to do with it.  I could have a 14" monitor and a 22" monitor and if they are both set at 640x480 then you see the exact same picture on the screen on both.  So, it is all about resolution.  Actually from what you are describing, it sounds like some setting either on your monitor or your PC.  Is it just like that on the forum?

For some strange reason its only this forum. I don't have it with other sites, just this one.  At first I just thought some pictures were just taken off center but then there were posts about things I just wasn't seeing. I get all of the text its just some pictures are not all there.  ???
Sort of like me.  ;D

Can you point us to an example so we can see if it happens to our monitors?

Here is the topic and here are pictures as seen on my computer.

It doesn't make any sense to me why only here does this seem to happen.
It was the remark about the (You loot we shoot) sticker on them that had me looking.

and the right side isn't tight against your monitor?  can you view the thread and take a snap shot of your screen and post it?

Brett, is there a setting on the forum that sets a specific size for the user of how wide the forum can be? I've seen this on another forum and it was a forum setting.

I just checked my settings and all of the settings are percentages, and not sizes.... see below:

$context['browser']['needs_size_fix'] && !$context['browser']['is_ie6'] ? ' width: 100%;' : '', '">';

echo '
      <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" align="center" width="100%" style="position: relative;">

<td class="titlebg" width="100%"';

And so on and so forth.  So, all of my settings are based on percentages of the window size.  It is not limited to things like "192px" or anything like that.

Here is a photo of the larger IE window.... see how it has the full text and photo.

(http://www.78ta.com/ebay/84620ec0.jpg)

Anyway... as I am doing this post and trying to figure out what is going on, I can duplicate his error on the pics.  The screen size (or resolution) does have to do with it.  It looks like he makes his Internet Explorer screen as large as his desktop, but it is still not large enough to show the entire picture.  So, if the photo is 800x600, and his screen is set at 640x480, then the forum (or maybe it is Internet Explorer) is cutting the picture to fit.  Instead of putting up a scroll bar to scroll left and right to be able to view the entire photo, it just cuts the photo.

Here is a photo on the same size screen, but I shrunk the IE photo...... see how there is still no scroll bar at the bottom of the window..

(http://www.78ta.com/ebay/84820110.jpg)

So, now that I can duplicate the problem, I can find a solution....

See, I am trying to post this and work on the problem at the same time... I now found the solution.  I opened up the same page in Firefox, and low and behold, when I shrunk the window size, Firefox did not cut the picture, but instead put up a scroll bar to scroll left and right to be able to see the entire picture.  So, now I know the problem is with Internet Explorer and not the Forum settings.

See how at the bottom of the Firefox window there is a scroll bar to scroll left and right to see the entire photo.... and also how the photo now extends past the black border on the right of the screen.....

(http://www.78ta.com/ebay/84a200e0.jpg)
See how I work through this stuff... I also have multiple PC's with different Operating Systems, different browsers, different Internet connections.... I try to have a bunch of different options so that I can start trouble shooting things and find out where the problem is.

Is any of this making sense to anyone else besides me?

I'm with ya bud, I understand.  Now, what setting in IE is making the scroll bar not show up.

I think you thrive on problems like this, it's pretty exciting figuring out the problem.

That I do not know yet.... but at least I found a work around.  Install Firefox and problem is solved ........for right now.  I have to check through all of my browser settings and see what I can find.
