thanks shakerz for the link. the car looks good.  but I didn't think the paint shined out in the sun the way it should be. looks like enamel paint. but could just be the pics.  the pics of mine shine like crazy, and its not even wet sanded or buffed yet. I put mine out in the sun today and the sun glare off it made me see spots for a wile.

impressive work! i used a dry color sanding system with soft fine grit D/A pads on last paint job. worked pretty well for me tho some old school guys scoff and say they will only color sand by hand. let me know how new console works. if it is aftermarket, i have heard mixed reviews on QC.

4speed, did you over lap your skin or did you butt weld it? how was your fitment with your skin? what namebrand did you use?

I used a crimping tool so I could lap it. so the panels were flush when put into place. and made for a very nice fit. i use GoodMark panels.

high build primer ?  no , never. it will rust out in a few years. lacquer primers don't seal the metal.  my car has no lacquer primer on it. its all urethane and takes a calist (hardener) . its high build , or thin it with its reducer to fill sand marks.
A skim coat of fiberglass filler to seal it then put some light filler over that to fill the sand marks. it may be about a 1/16" thick.

this is why i ask. i got this skin and its over sized set up for over lapping. but it goes too far down and into the rocker 1 inch. otherwise it looks like the body lines line up correctly. i guess im used to car replacement panels that you cannot overlap so to me this feels very wrong to over lap. and i know people do it all the time but my main concern is how does that spoiler end cap fit now? i need to do my 71's d/s and also my 77's d/s lower rear section.

looks good and 1/16" is impressive. i dont like laquer products either. never had any rust or seal issues under my urethane primers, bases, and clears.  :)

ya I thought of all that when installing the quarter.  before you take the fender and door off make sure you have good pins in the door and the body line is were you want it. tack the quarter in and check the lines. then put the spoilers on to see how they fit, and your bumper.  I trimmed the quarter to fit what I cut off the car.  if U push and twist to make it fit be ready to put filler all over it. your putting small wrinkles in the quarter. and wont see them until you block it. then you need to get some feather fill. its like filler you spray on and block that off.

did yall were the price of paint and such is going to go thru the roof.  no more lacquer or urethane based products. the government is doing away with it all.  there going to water based paint. I don't even think your spray guns will be any good any more.
