1978 trans am spacesaver spare tire size and tread stamp?
« on: February 28, 2009, 05:33:06 PM »
Hey Hitman, (or anyone else that can help me out.)

I need some help determining what size of wheel came with the 1978 spacesaver spare option.  I am currently looking to buy a whole spacesaver setup if anyone is wanting to sell.  There seems to be some confusion as to whether it is a 14" or a 15" wheel.  I have 15x8 snowflakes on it from the factory as it is a WS-6 / W-72 optioned car.  I am trying to make the trunk presentation factory correct and would like to know.  I am also interested in finding out the correct letters and numbers stamped on the tire itself.  I have seen some pics with L9CU on them.  Are there any other letter/number codes that would be correct?  Thank you in advance to all that can help!!

Would the PHS docs tell you that?  Build sheet?  Mine look stock but they're `79's so that doesn't tell you much.  Someone will be along.

All 1978 Norwood OH produced cars space saver spares should have L9CU stamped on them while Van Nuys cars should have L9C4 stamped on them.

Why didn't I look there before? :-[  I never remembered it sying anything about the spare.  Yes, build sheet states M55 space svr spr OGR 2.2? x 15 WH/LE.  Car is from the Norwood, Ohio plant.  I now know that I am looking for a 15" L9CU.  Thank you guys!!!
