Like other RPOs the WS6 package meant different parts and
requirements during different model years. Somewhat intersecting
with the W72 RPO, which was mostly engine related, WS6
was often both a handling and performance package.
The best way to know what it did or didn't include is to look
at the Pontiac Product manual for any given year. But even then,
running changes (updated by bulletins) changed it, inside of a
model year.
In 1980, the top end engine was the 301T... There was a W72
engine option, but it was a performance option for the 301NA.
WS6 had nothing to do with the 301T, but the Pace Car, 301T
powered - included the WS6.
In 1980, the Black Special Edition package (Y84) did not include
WS6.
If you then get into which wheels should it have come with, the
story gets even more complicated. <grin>
Thanks to all for recognizing my efforts on the 301 Garage site,
and for helping folks needing that specific info - which was in fact
my purpose.
While the 301G has grown to have it's own personality, it is in fact
a proud part of the greater Firebird and Trans Am community. The
intro I have on the 301G in fact references the fact that more general
questions may be better served both here and on Trans Am Country,
which I think are undoubtedly the best folks in the hobby...
Helping where I can,
Joe
