correct stall converter
« on: November 25, 2015, 12:54:37 PM »
Hi everyone!! I'm new to the forum and I have a question on stall converters , I have a 79 T/A that I have been working on and off for the pass few years. this is what I have ,400 with edelbrock performer-plus cam and lifter set  duration is .050 as per cam card rpm range is from idle to 5500. 387 hp 439 ft -lbs I have their intake and carb also timing chain. I have factory 6x heads with new springs ,long tube headers pyres exhaust with x pipe ,th350 and 373 gears in the rear . question is were should I be with the stall converter . please keep in mind that this is my first build so I know I have made some mistakes. good news is it did fire up. before I forget tires are 26 inch tall . cam card also says I should be at 32 to 34 degrees advance between 3000-3500rpm which I am.  motor idles just under 1000  I have a hole shot B&M that I purchased and was told it was 2200 stall but from what I have read they tend to slip  with these engines .

Call Andre at Edge Racing Converters direct line is 850-277-7305.  Just placed my order today $470 out the door.  I have a pretty big mechanical flat tappet cam so my converter is being built for it...About 2800 foot brake before it will bust lose.  Shifting the 468 at about 5700 with my cam.  He will custom build to your needs.  Also really nice street converters for under $300.
