Title: 78 to 79 part interchangeability?
Post by: 1973Formula on July 21, 2008, 08:33:50 AM
What parts are different between these two model years?  I am mostly concerned with interior, electrical, chassis.  I can pick up a fairly complete 79 donor car to use for parts on a incomplete 78.  Just don't want to waste money on buying the 79 if the parts are all different.

Thanks,

Some of the parts are a different style, but will still work in a 1978.  With the imnterior, it is the seats, the material is a different pattern, but the shape of the foam and frame are the same.  The exterior, the nose is different, the wheel flares, the rear spoiler, the tail lights, the rear bumper are all different.  They will still fit, but are a different style and shape.

The really only electrical difference I can think of is the high beam switch (dimmer switch).  It's located on the floor in a 78 and on the column in 79.  The columns are different too.  The 79 had the hump on the left side.
