New guy from Florida. 1979 TA SE WS-6
« on: October 24, 2014, 09:38:38 AM »
Hello everybody,
My names Matthew and I hail from the bay area in central Florida.
I am the proud owner of a 1979 Trans am SE with the ws-6 package. 400 4 speed. I bought it when I was 16 but my father bought it off me because I had a history of "reckless driving" and was sure I was going to get myself killed. We restored the car together over the years. Rebuilt the engine and completely restored the interior, but when it comes to paint we have had nothing but bad luck. 3 failed paint jobs in total. After the second failure we took the car to bare metal and worked from scratch.
My 28th birthday was Tuesday and the car was given to me as a gift.
I'm really excited to finish the paint job. Any tips? Also I am in need of the SE gold and black bird complete graphics kit. What is the best one on the market?
As soon as I get some time I'll share some pictures.
Thanks guys.

Finally got some time to take a few pictures. As you can see she's ready for paint. But the interior is about done.

Very nice. I notice in the picture the bird is solid gold. I remember the bird being black with gold lines. Was mine wrong or can I get the bird in black and just didn't see it?

I think Hitman (Brett, the owner of the site) sells the decals as well.  I got mine there as well a couple or three years ago.

No, the bird on a factory original 79 was always the "5 color" bird, like in the photo below. 78 was the last year for the plainer bird:

There is more info about the hood birds on this page:

I was able to find an picture of the car before we painted it. the bird was the "5 color" it just looks really dark if not black for the body color. One thing that bugs me is the sail panel birds are 6 inch not the 3....

It's an SE right? An SE is supposed to have the larger sail panel birds, so if the birds are the 6" ones, that seems right to me.
