Lacquer will come off in sheets if the item is not prepped right, all other paint has to be stripped, primed and then painted. My wheels are also done with lacquer from Brett I have been asked if they were new wheels and when I tell them I painted them there like no way, makes you feel good when you know other people like them. Good luck with yours.

Most people say clear tends to turn yellow after awhile.

You can clear the whole wheel or just the painted surface. By clearing the whole wheel you can't polish the edges, clearing them you won't have to polish them.

i hear about them cracking and turning yellow over time what if i just cleared over the gold part and left the polished part uncleared will this cause discoloring  or is this bad idea i would use the duplicolor clear ?

There are alot of "gray's" out there.  I have never taken the time to find a match for it.  I think that some of the bigger restoration companies carry something for that, but have not checked with them because I use my own paint.

i used 5 inch electric oribital sander started with 220 to remove any gouges or rash then 320  then 500  then polished and buffed masked off then used the duplicolor  universal gold spray paint and self etching primer   this can be done in a couple of hours if you have everything ready they look pretty good not show qaulity like Brett's   but mine only cost about 15.00 a wheel
