The rear end gear was determined by the engine and transmission combinations.  So, if you got the L78 automatic, it was a 2.56 rear end.  If you got the W72 4-Speed, it was the 3.42 rear end.  If you got the W72 automatic, then is was the 3.23 rear end.  So the rear end gear had nothing to do with a Special Edition car or not.  The Special Edition packages (Y82, Y84, Y88, etc.) was an Appearence package only for looks and had nothing to do with engine, transmissions, rear ends, power options, etc.  Strictly looks.

yes as my build sheet say y88 special edition appearance package i thought the lowest gear they made was a 2.73 until i seen this build sheet wow.
