OD transmission in 81 TA

Hello, my tH350 tranny has rescently began to slip in my 81TA. The TA now has a sbc 350 in it and I was hoping I match an OD tranny up to the motor. If anyone has any information on the subject or can advise me on to which tranny to use (probally 700r4 or 200r4) I would appreciate it. I looked into it a while back when I first got the car and know that there is a switch required to lock up the OD but was hoping someone made a kit for the swap. Thanks for your time!

There's another thread running around about this - 200-4R is stronger than the 700-R4.  700 has weak planetaries .... do some searches with the 700/200 tranny names and see what comes back.

That link was very helpful...thanks! Now if anyone has any info on kits available to set up an OD tranny in a car with no computer then that would be appreciated. We must remember I'm a college kid on a budget :)

wow that was educational!  sucks that 700r4 has only chevy bolt pattern though. i have considered puting one in my car

If you go with a non-lockup version then no computer or electronics are needed.  If you want to go with a lockup version Jegs or Summit among others will sell you a lockup kit.  I have tried the B&M version and also purchased the TCI version.  Painless and Jet also make kits but I have not tried them.  After all the problems I've had with it locking or not locking up I decided that I would just remove the lockup wiring and run it with the non-lockup.  I'll just have to watch my temp gauge to ensure that I don't start getting the tranny fluid too hot as I am running an aluminum radiator that cools both my engine and transmission.  Here are some links for the parts I just mentioned.  Once you decide if you want to use either kit let me know and I'll let you know what I would need for one of the kits I have (The TCI kit has never even been out of the box).
