That's the same version I've heard.

My firiends and I met up with a couple of guys 20-30 years ago who moved to Texas from New York and we all became friends. They married Texas girls and made Texas their home. The first time we met them, one of my firends told them that saying and from then on whenever one of the guys from New York introduced himself to anyone new when with us he would say, "I'm that damn yankee." LOL  ;D

Though yes, Damn Yankee is a group also.  I actually saw them in concert.  Not too bad!  One of their famous songs was "Can you take me higher"  Other than that, I don't know what else was a hit with them. LOL

cat scratch fever did not come from the damn yankee's that was under ted nugent. but personally I do not know of any other radio "hit" they had either however, I think there album was great.

"Coming of age" another Damn Yankee's song, gotta like old Tommy Shaw.  I've always loved "Stranglehold" by Nuggent,  I have it as a ring tone, although I don't think he was the one singing :)
