Title: National Parts Depot
Post by: Nexus on March 05, 2009, 10:24:41 PM
Is National Parts Depot any good to deal with for parts? They seem to have everything you can think of for your car but if the stuff is cra...um...crummy then I don't want to deal with them.

Agreed...my experiences with them have been good also.
I usually shop prices around to help make my decisions...NPD, Ames, PY, etc.

Can't speak to Canadian delivery, but my experience was 100% good.  Good stuff, good prices, great delivery, no complaints.

On a different subject, I DO wish you'd keep those damn geese on your side of the border, though -- nasty, obnoxious, obstinate, and filthy things... :P

The only 'problem' I've had with NPD was with an order that I placed late on a weekend evening.  Even though I called the number for the Michigan warehouse (it is the closest to me) the call was picked up by the Florida warehouse.  They said the order would ship from Michigan but it didn't - came from Florida so the usual ship time was more than doubled because of that.  Not a problem really as the car was still in the body shop at the time.

Michigan is also closest to me. If I really wanted to save time I could drive there in about 4-5 hours. I should probably do that...ROAD TRIP!!!

I use classic industries, some of the cheapest prices out there. In my opinion avoid Year One, wayyyy over priced. I recently ordered a new console from Ames, but guess what, they sent me the freaking manual transmission= the wrong one.

I've not had good luck with CI.  Things take a lot longer to get to me and more often than not the item is either damaged or doesn't fit correctly.  Just been a hassle working with them.

Really classic industries have treated me very well and i live on the other side of the country.  i get things within a week and thats with ups ground.  The only complaint i have with them is the chrome lip along my doors that is connected to the rubber molding on the window.  That molding doesn't fit at all.  and the chrome seems larger than before and before their was a little bit of black rubber underneath it.  Can anyone help me wit this problem.  Its a 79 trans am.  does anyone know where i can get the correct molding

I don't think they make it anymore.  You may get lucky and get a used one in good shape somewhere.

Are you talking about the window sweeps?

Not quite sure what they are called they run along the top of the door right by where the window comes out of the door, but on the outside of the car. They run from one side of the door to the otherside, passing by the mirror.  I hope that explains it enough

Do you mean the exterior "chrome" molding on the door itself?

Yeah thats what my car has on it now but thats not what the original one looked like.  and mine doesn't go around the front onto the fenders and hood like that

I've just ordered a few things last week from NPD, i got a front emblem, two hood bumpers, two head lights. To give you an idea of canadian shipping it was 56$ of shipping from michigan to Kingston, Ontario. for a 100 purchase.

Shipping up here to Canada is absolutely stupid.  I don't mind paying a reasonable rate and the taxes of course....but duty charges are too much. Honestly wouldn't it be better to get a mail box just over the border and ship it there then cross and pick it up.

I ordered door panels from brett and it cost twice "Canadian dollars" with all the necessary charges involved...but...they are exact replicas of what I have...awe it's only money eh...lol

Off topic of NPD, but you can send it to the closest UPS place to the border i think and then pick it up there. It might save you a bit.
