Since it has blue snowflakes could it be a bluebird?

Whatever it is, it sure is ugly. Even off the factory that car would have looked ugly. That color reminds me of the way my grandma decorates her house.
-
Wow! Good catch Tommy! I'm not an expert but it sure looks like a Skybird!

Might be an interesting one to scoop up....you don't see many of them!

do you think its worth buying?
-
It might be? I don't know what the value of the Skybird's are, but I know I have personally never seen one. It might not be too bad of a deal, depending on what kind of shape it's in, once you get close up and personal....you can only tell so much from pictures! I would love to see one get restored! I wonder if the Hitman can do blue wheels too!?!?

In his ad pictures- if you click on the lower right one, you can see where the Skybird decal used to be. As for collectibility, that's just an opinion. I have never seen one bring big money around here, or a Redbird or Yellowbird either, but that doesn't mean it has no collector status. It just isn't valuable as far as money-wise. There is more to these cars than cash though, if you really like them like I do.
-
It's a skybird alright. My opinion is it isn't worth putting a lot of money into. That one has lots of rust. To be brutal....in late second gens...there isn't much demand for anything but a Trans Am. I don't care how rare it is. It would cost just as much to restore a Trans Am as it would that skybird. And, the trans am would be worth more when you're done. However, if you just happen to like them, then you can get a good deal on one because the purchase price will almost always be lower than a trans am.

i found a really nice 79 redbird i mean perfect last summer with a price tag of 2300 on it i almost bought it for a driver just because it was so nice but desire these are the perfect cars to make bandit se clones out of.

the guy that i bought my y88 off of he had a 78 redbird in his garage... is there a such thing as a 78 redbird?
Tommy

Yeah, they are kinda rare, but not desirable. Also, the $2,000 asking price is about $1,500 too high for that car.
-
yeah i had one and did a ta clone out of it perfect car for it fully loaded rear sway bar t-tops posi rear and a 4 speed to boot. i had a 78 sky bird for a parts car and a 78 redbird along with a 81 yellow bird they are kind of neat to look at as a comparasin to the formula but very lady like for a car supid swirly stickers not cool at all yet still neat because they were so gay lol if that makes sence to you?

Really? I thought that 2,000 was like dirt cheap for that... LOL

No, that is not cheap for that... after all, it is just a Firebird Esprit. A real nice one with low miles still sell for less than $8,000. So, $2,000 for one in that condition is a bad deal.

ohh... i wonder why noone wants them?
1. Because they are just a plain Firebird Esprit.
2. The Light blue is a "Girls" color.
Also, I am not an expert... I am just a specialist.

Specialist: One who specializes in transforming old cars into beautiful Trans Ams.
mathematically speaking: X is Algebraic for "unknown".
Joe the Plumber speaking: a spurt is a "Drip under Pressure"
Therefore an expert must be an unknown drip under pressure. Brett is a specialist, unless you want to be banned from this site ;D

I'm gonna take lumps for saying this, but back in the day the color "bird" cars were considered "girl" cars (albeit by a less kind name). Many of them were powered by the anemic Buick NA V-6, some of which were even the odd-fire versions (AKA shake-motors). They were nothing special beyond the trim group, and that was selected with your average 23-25 year old secretary in mind. It was hardly a performance anything.
Today, 30 years later, with gen 2 Firebirds of any flavor being a rarity on the street, it's a different story. But back in the day anybody who was serious about performance wouldn't be caught dead in one. That's not being nasty -- it's just saying how it was back when they were new.
-
You wont take any lumps from me Rick. I remember reading back in the day, that the color "bird" cars were definitely geared toward women.
-
I stand in that same corner with Rick.. I too read "color" bird cars were geared up to sale to women.
-
that was actually in an old dealer brochure i used to own gm specifically stated that.
-
Thanks for the information guys... :)

Some new paint color or primer black and a cowl hood and nice Hp, torque motor. with a roll bar would make a great race car.
