Title: After market Carb

I have a 1979 Trans Am with an Olds 403. It has been rebuilt and has an edlebrock intake. It also has a quadrajet Carb. Want to see if their is an aftermarket Carb that will fit that will let my shaker hood stay functional. My engine has 430hp. Please advise.

Well, you know what they say about opinions.  ::)

I've always had really good luck with Edelbrock flavors.  The airhorn design makes for less leaks and fairly worry free.  Folks yell about tuning them, but my 02 gauge says she's spot on right out of the box.  YMMV, but for what it's worth I thought the Holly was way to finicky for street use and wasn't impressed.

Exactly. Some are set up for super quick and easy adjustment like the Holley but not so much in the fine tuning. QJets are almost too much fine tuning, they can work on any number of engine sizes and outouts and adjusted for all, but more involved. It comes down to what you want or need to change carb for.

430hp?  That's got to be one of the highest hp 403s in North America!

The problem is not top end. It has great top end. The problem is it Boggs out of the hole. Just wondering if their is an after market carb that is easily tuned that won't require modification to the shaker hood system. Thanks for info.

Scrap the edelgarbage, I did the same, I'm going back to the or if GM one.

Does anyone have an air intake base that came of an Olds 403 that they would part ways with? Looking for one. Thanks
