79' was last year for 400/403. 80' and 81' all you could get was the 301 and 305. 80', as stated, 305 was a Cali car only, then in 81' it was available everywhere, but only as a 4 speed.

That sounds like a nice find..probably not a lot of them left out there that haven't been modified.
Another thing to look for on a 305 equipped T/A is the absense of chrome splitter exhaust tips. They got straight tailpipes like the Camaro.

then in 81' it was available everywhere, but only as a 4 speed.
With exception to Canada where the 81 305 T/A was an automatic.

Thanks for the info on it.......I will try and post a few pics of it tomorrow...It has 4 wheel disc brakes, all power with T-tops,a/c,cruise,tilt wheel, rear window def,...Loaded car....They could have at least put the 350 in it....lol....The guy I bought it from said I could buy a 403 if I wanted to go that way with it.But then I would have to change the transmission to......No thanks for all that work...

I think its a great combination: You get the hood scoop and amenities for a chevy engine, and a 4-speed car.  You can build a 383 stroker as economically as anything and it will be great.

Haters are gonna hate for it not being a Pontiac engine, but the argument is invalid for a car that came with a half-dozen engine combinations (mine has the 403).

I was just in Austin last week, man! I ate at Crave, Eddie Vs, and also went to the Torchey Taco. Austin is super cool.
