1979 Trans Am LS1 swap motor mount holes
« on: November 25, 2015, 11:31:36 PM »
I am swapping a LS1 into my '79 that was originally equipped with a 400. Hooker recommends using a SBC clam shell style frame mount. The problem is the holes in the sub  frame don't align with the holes in the SBC mounts. Anyone have this problem?

A car originally equipped with a 400 wouldn't have mounting holes for an sbc. The 400 is a Pontiac motor and has different mounts.

I just finished putting an LS2 in a 79 trans am and my sub frame was drilled for the sbc mounts. Do you have any pics of your sub frame where they would mount and maybe I can help ya. Most of those frames came drilled to fit many engines from BOP to chevy. My original was a BOP 6.6 engine and I also used the hooker 12613HKR engine mounts. Other than that you need sbc rubber motor mounts, Anchor - Engine Mount  Part # 2292 $9.99 at oreilly. Mounts the oreilly mounts to your frame, hooker swap mounts to your engine and drop that sucker in. Could not be easier.
But mount the rubber mounts on the frame to the forward most, and uper most holes on the frame until all three holes line up.
